Walker Complex Wildfire The Prescott National Forest is experiencing the first major fire of the season. The fire started Monday, May 22 around 5:30 p.m. The exact cause of the fire is still under investigation. The Walker Complex, as the fire is known, consists of four separate fires. Walker I and Walker II and the Spruce fires have all been contained at about two acres each and mop up continues. The fourth incident, the Blue Jay Fire, now stands at approximately 50 acres. Four Type I initial attack hotshot crews and four Type II crews are either on scene or en route, as well as a number of other fire and support personnel. The firefighters come from a several agencies, including Arizona State, Bureau of Land Management and the Bureau of Indian Affairs, as well as the Forest Service. Many local fire departments are also working to control the blaze, including the City of Prescott, Central Yavapai, Walker, Spruce Mountain, Mayer and Crown King Fire Departments. Aviation resources committed to the incident are four air tankers, two from Prescott and two from Phoenix air tanker bases, a lead plane, three helicopters, a Type 1, a Type 2 and a Type 3, and an air attack plane. Crews completed constructing a line around the Blue Jay fire on Tuesday, May 23. Although the fire is not contained no structures are threatened.
