Double Humbucker

This is the bass I built with my Carvin Custom 5 String Wide Neck Through The Body Kit, Special Order, 2 Double Humbuckers, Active Passive System, 9 Volt - (thinking about going to an 18 volt system, although so far it is pretty effective at 9 volts.)

About the finish, I was warned that they were experiencing blotching when they used Tung Oil on the swamp ash.  I took a chance on it because I had totally saturated the body with  Liquid Gold because it is a light oil and I thought it would aid in preventing blotching.  Oops.    Too late to fix I thought but I noticed that the blotching was a result of not being willing to spend enough time thoroughly impregnating the swamp ash with the Tung Oil.  The end result was that the entire bass turned into one big blotch.

Cool.

The finish turned out to be a deep grain revealing unique color.  Every three months or so I add another coat of Tung Oil. It just keeps getting deeper and deeper.

Every month or so I coat it with Trewax clear paste wax.  It is usually used by gunsmiths on rifle stocks and on hard wood floors, produces a high gloss, resists scratches, and easily repaired.  I was worried at first but I found out that the Tung Oil will penetrate the wax when I want to add more.

THE BASS CASE

This was an old beat up G & L hard bass case.  It spent a couple of years as a shotgun case.  But when I ordered the Carvin Kit, I decided to attempt to restore it by stripping it and sealing it with a couple of coats of resin.

I intended to cover it with felt,  like the cover on Carvin Amps, but everybody thought it looked so good I decided to leave it uncovered.  I did a couple of  road trips and a couple of flights, and it was thoroughly dogged by the baggage G-rillas'.
