TR 174. Built on an Aristocraft Motor Block. I drilled holes in the wheels to add the side rods (brass) and counterweight (wood). There is quite a bit of slop in side rods and they make a clunking sound when it runs, which is not unlike the prototypes! The body is made from 3mm customwood, the roof is bent aluminium sheet, shunters steps old stainless steel, and hand rails are brass. It is fitted with NZR type couplings which I make a pattern for and had cast in white metal.
This was my first G scale scratch built loco.
Prototype: 15 tonne diesel shunter built by A&G Price Ltd (NZ). Painted in original 1962 colour. These locos where renumbered and repainted in early 1980's and most have now been scrapped. |

Motor Jigger. WW6672. Scratch built plastic body. Motor is a $2.50 3-12v motor purchased from Dick Smith Electronics. This drives a 33:1 "North Yard" (nz) gear box.
Brass wheels and steel frame was constructed by my father. It runs at a nice slow speed. Ideal for a small layout.
Man and tool bag are made from "Du-Kit" a plasticine which can be cooked in the kitchen oven to become hard. All my people are made from this. |

Way and Works rail mounted Land Rover.
This was make from a 1:24 Toy from The Warehouse.
The drive mechanism is from toy racing car ($6) and is powered by 2 AA batteries. The road wheels were pulled off and the rail wheels fitted on the same axle!
The red flashing LED light on top wires straight in to the battery.

Big Hustler. Kit set loco by MDC. My first G scale loco. It has been kit-bashed a little, in fact I've only ever seen one that hasn't been kit bashed! The air tanks have been moved from the roof to the back of the cab. The exhaust runs up the cab wall. The light has also been moved. Horn is scratch built, as are loco control's inside the cab. Not used very often because it has brass wheels which get dirty easily. |

Bachmann 2-4-2 loco. One day it become a NZR Rogers K class. In the meantime in makes nice sound and smoke and looks good for those that don't know anything about trains. |
