| 1949 � In January the RMC Hockey team takes to the ice after a six year hiatus.
1950 � Former Montreal Maroon, Yip Ridley, becomes head coach of the RMC hockey team. He holds that position until 1953. 1952 � RMC wins the Junior Kingston City League 4-3 over the Queens� Juniors. The senior team finishes third in the St. Lawrence Hockey Conference. 1953 � RMC Junior Varsity wins the Kingston Junior City Hockey Leage Championship 2 games to 0 over Queens�. 1953 � First ever exhibition game between RMC Junior Varsity and CMR. 1954 - The first penalty in the RMC - West Point series is called against the West Point goaltender for interference. 1958 � After playing the West Point game at Queens� University campus since 1948 the game is moved to the Kingston Memorial Arena in front of 2000 fans. 1959 � RMC wins the Ottawa-St. Lawrence Conference league championship. 1960 � Constantine Arena opens on RMC campus. This is the colleges first indoor artificial ice arena which now allows the hockey team to conduct all of its practices on the RMC campus vice Queens. 1960 � RMC drops out of the Ottawa-St. Lawrence Athletic Association. 1960 � Major Danny McLeod, a World War Two Vet, is appointed as RMC�s first ever full time Athletic Director. This is a direct response to improve the RMC Varsity Program and to keep it current with other Canadian Institutions. McLeod served this position as well as Head Coach of the Hockey Team until 1971 when he accepted a position with the National Hockey League. In addition to his role as Athletic Director at RMC, McLeod served as the Executive Director of the Canadian Interuniversity Athletic Union (CIAU). He was a driving force is establishing the CIAU in 1961. He served as Executive Director until 1971. 1961 - Re-enters University hockey as part of the CIAU. 1967 � Gino Lauzon chosen as Ottawa-St Lawrence Athletic Association All-Star. 1968 � RMC PT Instructors Jem Gebhard and Wally Travis are hired as Toronto Maple Leafs Strength and Conditioning coaches for training camp. A member of this Leafs team is Ron Ellis, also a member of the 1972 Team Canada, who�s son RJ played for RMC from 1993-1997 becoming the fourth 100 career point scorer for RMC. In another Leaf connection former Leaf team mate of Ron Ellis, Billy Harris has two of his sons play for RMC in the late 1980�s. Billy Harris Jr, becomes the third 100 career point scorer for RMC. 1971 � Tom Walton becomes the new head coach replacing Danny McLeod. 1973 - No. 1800 Senator Hartland Molson is inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in the builders� category. Senator Molson entered RMC in 1924 and graduated in 1928. During his tenure at RMC he played on the hockey team all four years including the holiday tournament in 1925. 1974 � Defenseman Brian Hook loses an eye when a deflected puck hist him in the face during a game against Queens. 1975 � Roy Weatherbee takes over as RMC head coach. 1976 � Gord Brown chosen as a First Team All- Star on defense in the OSLAA. Teammate Dave Hall, RW, chosen as second Team All-Star. 1977 � Tom MacKay takes over head coaching duties. 1977 � A 6-1 loss to West Point evens the annual series at 21-21-4. 1978 � RMC drops out of the OUAA. 1981 � Dr. Wayne Kirk takes over as head coach of RMC. 1983 - RMC joins the Ontario University Athletic Association (OUAA) and the Canadian Interuniversity Athletic Union (CIAU) after a 5 year absence. |
