| 1886 - The first ever organized interuniversity hockey game is played between the cadets of the Royal Military College of Canada and Students from Queens University. Game is played in Febuary on Confederation Basin in Downtown Kingston. RMC wins the inaugural game 3-1. This is currently the oldest rivalry amongst Canadian University Hockey teams. Members of the team are Nos 188 WAH Kerr, 202 WH Ross, 181 JA Gunn, 179 AE Panet, 175 GN Johnston, 182 AG Bremner, 205 RW Simpson.
c.1889 - RMC, McGill, Queens and the University of Toronto for the first University Hockey League. In Feb 1889 RMC plays McGill for the first time. The current RMC McGill rivalry is the second oldest in Canadian University hockey. 1901 - RMC, Ottawa College and Trinity form Intercollegiate Hockey Union 1902 � RMC is the Canadian Intercollegiate Hockey Union Champion. 1903 � RMC wins its second consecutive Canadian Intercollegiate Hockey Union Championship. 1912-1914 � RMC wins 3 consecutive Intermediate Collegiate Cups. 1923 - The first RMC - West Point game is played in Kingston. RMC won the inaugural game 3-0. Billed as the oldest continuous international hockey rivalry. 1924 � West Point makes its first visit to RMC. This marks the first time USMA Cadets had visited another country. 1925 - During a holiday tournament in New York City RMC defeats Princeton 3-1 in front of 6000 people. The next day 4000 people watch Boston College beat RMC 7-6 at Madison Square Garden. 1925 � 4 RMC players are part of the Kingston Hockey Club who were silver medallists in the OHA finals. 1926 � The Kingston Combines, with 3 RMC players and coached by Tom Gelly a member of the RMC staff, make it to the Memorial Cup finals losing 2 games to 1 to Calgary. 1926 � RMC wins the Intermediate Intercollegiate Cup. 1926 � RMC re-enters the OHA. 1927 � RMC wins the Intermediate Intercollegiate Cup. 1931 - RMC wins the OHA Intermediate Championships and goes on to play in the Allen Cup where they lose to eventual Champions Sudbury. 1931 - The airplane replaces the train for travel. During the OHA Intermediate semi-finals Camp Borden plays in Kingston for game two of the series. This is the first time that a visiting team travels by plane to play in a hockey game. 1935 � RMC wins the University Intermediate Championship 5-4 over Loyola College (now part of Concordia University). 1939- West Point defeats RMC 3-2 for their first victory in 16 tries. Two weeks later USMA presents the "Silver Cup" to RMC as a companion to the Cup RMC presented USMA in 1923. 1940 � Holt Rink is condemmed. 1941 � New outdoor rink at RMC opens in January. 1941 � Annual West Point game is cancelled due to World War Two. 1942 � As a result of World War Two RMC temporarily closes its doors in June of that year. This puts a hold on the West Point series. 1947 - First effort to find the origins of hockey are started. Captain James Sutherlund makes clame that the RMC - Queens game in 1886 was the first ever hockey game. He later recants that claim upon receiving evidence of games played earlier in Nova Scotia. Eventually in 2002 Windsor Nova Scotia is recognized as the official birthplace of hockey. 1948 � In September 1948, RMC re-opens with the New One Hundred. The New One Hundred is a play on the �Old Eighteen� who were the first 18 people admitted into RMC when it opened in 1876. |
