Co. "I"

Sidney R. Prentice enlisted in Kalamazoo County at the age of 23. He enlisted in Company I 2nd Michigan Volunteer Infantry.
He was first mentioned as a Cpl. in September 25th 1861.
By December 19th 1861 he had become a Cpl. of the Color Guard.
On March 5th 1862 it was mentioned that he would be receiving his Sgt.
Sid Prentice was described by Lcol. Charles B. Hayden in his journals (For Country, Cause and Leader) as
"A man of good form & figure, considerable talent & of the most peculiar look of any one I ever saw. He has a very large head, light yellow hair, white eyebrows, light blue eyes very large, a long and very red face, nose scarlet & of ample proportions, ears and mouth very large. The first thought when you see him is that he has the most face of any man you ever saw. I must say for him that he has naturally a kind, generous & confiding heart."
