Pi Kappa History

Upon arriving at Elmhurst College in 1999, Leslie Hollins was already aware of the Ultimate Sisterhood of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. However, she found that there was not a chapter on the campus. As she knew that being counted amongst the Sophisticated Women of Sigma, was something that she truly aspired to, she contacted the Sorors of Theta Chi Sigma Alumnae Chapter. With the light of the torch gleaming in her eyes and the dawning of the new millennium, Leslie Hollins became the first member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. at Elmhurst College in January of 2000.

Soror Hollins was a true pioneer because she knew that she must make the quest complete by taking this newfound colony to the next step of becoming a chartered chapter. As she developed programs and completed service projects, she recognized the makings of fine and true characters in Brandi Green, Tiffany Kemp, and Dakeeda Williams. In March of 2001, they were the next young ladies inducted into what was recognized as Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. Elmhurst College Colony - Central Region. With great triumph Soror Leslie Hollins graduated from Elmhurst College, but unfortunately without ever having realizing her dream of chartering at Elmhurst. Nevertheless, the remaining colony members continued their pursuit for candidates worthy of Sigma with the goal of chartering now as their vision too. Their search was successful in 2002 with the induction of Soror Tara Chillis and again in 2003 when Sorors Aretha Watkins and Kietta McFee were the next Sigmas that graced Elmhurst Campus.

There were now six Sorors on campus and Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. was envied because of the elegance of these remarkable young women. They supported a variety of events given by other organizations as well as put on very successful events and programs of their own. But from January 2000, the dream had always been to be a chartered entity within the Greatest Sisterhood in the world. On Sunday, September 14, 2003, Elmhurst College Colony - Central Region was finally charted as Pi Kappa Chapter. What a joyous day of accomplishment for these young ladies.

These Sorors showed true leadership as they worked their Sigma Magic allover the campus. It was because of their tremendous efforts that Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority was soon recognized as a top service providing organization on campus. By working diligently to uphold the aims of Sigma at Elmhurst and earning the respect of their Sorors and campus, these ladies were entitled to forever be known as the
