Hello and Welcome to the PEPPA Website. Thankyou for your interest on our group. Here is a little information about the history of the project running at the moment.
The peer education project is ran by Wolverhampton YMCA Triangle. This is located in an area called Pendeford. The team wanted to introduce a new way of prosenting information to young people that would be more effective. The idea of a peer education group was introduced and Kate Kite visited Aldersley High School in 2001 to introduce the project. From this a large number of children signed up and started to train weekly to become peer educators. Half way through this training the co-ordinator of the project changed to Donna Allen as it remains today. The training finished and the group were ready to start touring venues to teach about drug awareness and saftey issues.
The new group started working in schools in 2002 and a name was thought up. The group would be called PEPPA. This
stands for PEER EDUCATION PROJECT IN PENDEFORD AND ALDERSLEY. This group was a great success and visited many different venues to teach young people. This ranged from children aged 10-18 years of age. PEPPA also went on their first residential to South Pembrookshire. The project had been a great success and during the next couple of years a new group was required to keep up with demands from the public for drug awareness sessions.

Donna Allen the peer education co-ordinator choose to start a new group in Northicote High School in 2003. A large number also signed up for this group and training started for the new peer educators on drugs. The training finished and this group were ready to start touring venues.
The new group started working in schools in 2004 and a name was thought up. The group would be called NCODE. This stands for NORTHICOTE DRUG EDUCATION..
This group has also been a great success and have visited many venues. NCODE then went on their first residential. For more information on NCODE visit www.ncode.tk Meanwhile PEPPA was still going strong and was visiting many schools on a regular basis using role plays, drop in sessions and lessons. They also went on their second residential to Minehead.

The PEPPA group carried on their training weekly. Over the years many people had dropped out for many reasons so the group decided that recruitment will be undertaken by the PEPPA Peer Educators to boost the group. In 2003 the group recruited about 20 young people to join the peppa group.

2004 saw the PEPPA project prove how effective it is as both teams senior and new recruits went out to the Novotel to launch the guidance drugs laws in schools. The groups produced a small role play to show how they can get the message across in this way. It took the interest of many people and proved that peer education is a good thing. Now small peer education projects are being set up across the City and Peppa, Ncode and the overall project has expanded itself into 3 more schools. The project is now in Aldersley High School, Northicote High School, Girls High School (fast track), Highfields High School and Lady of St Chads High School. Therefore making us one of the biggest if not the biggest peer education project in the United Kingdom.

And that brings us to the project today. There are 2 peer education groups up and running in the Wolverhampton area and also a further 3 more peer education groups being trained. Making sure the information about drugs is available to all young people in the City. Proving that the YMCA Wolverhamptons Peer Education Project is by far the best in the country!
