Thallain

One might ask why there seem to be such great numbers of Thallain in the Empire. There are several theories about this. One is the fact that the Empire was the last habitable land in the world to remain unpopulated by fae and the thallain simply saw it as an ideal hidey hole in which to thrive. Another is the strong unseelie presence in the Empire which may have drawn the thallain to its shores. New Zealand was not just a home to colonists and explorers, numerous unsavoury types fled Britain and Ireland to escape their crimes and more. Whatever the reason, the thallain in the Empire number almost a full quarter of all fae there.
Foremost amongst these dark cousins of the kithain are the beasties. Several large packs can be found throughout the Empire and all have close blood ties and strong alliances against seelie discovery. The most dominant pack is lead by the beastie by the name of Turune who spends some time in the urban areas communicating with other thallain allies. The rest of the time is spent hunting with his pack, sometimes along side the were-folk he calls the Dancers. Another beastie leader, Yrtrealin, commands the dominant southern pack that constantly harrases Dun Shire and Cante Shire. Both of these leaders are reknown for feigned stupidity that leads their foes to grisly deaths - after all, who would suspect an apelike beastie with a speach slurring lisp such as Yrtrealin of intellect and cunning beyond ken?
Other thallain motleys are scattered across the Empire, holding their own against any kithain that seek to see them destroyed. An uneasy truce between the kithain and the thallain is held in place by the fact that Duke Morlyn has gathered a small squad of ogres within his domain and offers goblin artificers a place to research in his own castle. How he keeps these dark kin under control is no mystery, the canny Duke uses a mixture of blackmail, brute force and animal cunning to hold them under his sway.
Of other types of thallain, they exist within the scattered motleys, but beasties, ogres and goblins are the most populace of the dark kin in the Empire.
