The Second Generation: 1995-1998
After using the Ford Escort platform for Mazda's Protege, they decided to develop their own platform for the car. This was the end result. A well built, refined, VERY roomy sedan. It was a very strong alternative for people who like Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla. The DX and LX trim models had a rather weak 92hp 1.6 liter engine, while the ES had a 122hp 1.8 liter engine. In 1999, this model was replaced with the Third Generation.
