The First Generation: 1990-1994
The 1990-1994 Mazda Protege was the replacement for the Mazda 323. Mazda 323's were still sold, but only as a hatchback. The first generation Mazda Protege's were built on a shared platform with the Ford Escort. You could get the car with either two or four wheel drive, until 1993. The Protege had a 1.8 liter, 103hp engine for 1990.
