Adding special effects

Mirroring by pasting

You can sometimes adjust a mirror image more precisely by using the paste tool than by using the reflect tool. This trick is particularly useful for text.

To create a mirror image by pasting:

  1. Select the paste tool.
  2. Use the text outline tool to flip the image as follows:

upside down and backwards-grab the scale handle and pull the image over itself

upside down-grab the top stretch handle and pull the image down over itself

backwards-grab the right stretch handle and pull the image backwards over itself

Creating a motion-blur effect

You can create the impression of movement on a canvas by using the paste tool.

To create a motion-blur effect:

  1. Use the cut tool to create the cutout you want to use.
  2. Select the paste tool.
  3. Paste the cutout twice. For the first paste:

Position the outline tool in the final position.

Paste the cutout down at 100% opacity.

  4. For the second paste:

Move the outline tool back slightly.

Reduce the opacity setting by 15% or 20%.

Select under from the mode pull-down menu.

  5. Continue moving the outline tool and pasting the cutout, reducing the opacity each time, until you reach the starting point.
