Selecting a computer port
- Log in as root.
- Select a serial port.
- If you are connecting the tablet to a Sun workstation, skip to step 4.

If you are you connecting the tablet to an HP workstation, skip to step 5.

If you are using an SGI workstation, check to see if there is a getty process
running on it. If a getty process is running, complete the following steps to kill
it:

- Edit /etc/inittab and change the getty definition for the port connected to the tablet from respawn to off.
- Enter the command:
- telinit q
- Go to step 6.
or
- Select the System Manager option under System in the tool chest.
- Select the port you want to use.
- Change the port's description to Tablet.
- Go to step 6.
If you are using a Sun workstation, check to see if there is a getty process running on it. If a getty process is running, complete the following steps to kill it:
- Edit /etc/ttytab. In the line that begins with the serial port filename you are using, change the word on to off.
- Kill the getty process by entering the following command:
- kill -1 1
- Go to step 6.
If you are using an HP workstation, check to see if there is a getty process running on it.
If a getty process is running, complete the following steps to kill it:
- Ed/etc/inittab and change the getty definition for the port connected to the tablet from respawn to off.
- Enter the command:
telinit q
Establish the link to the port.
For a Wacom tablet, use the device name wacom. For a TDS tablet, use the device name tds.
For example, if you were connecting a Wacom to SGI port 2, you would use:
cd /dev
ln ttyd2 wacom
Verify that the link and the port have read/write permissions. If not, use the UNIX chmod command to change permissions.
For example, for a Wacom tablet, you would enter:
chmod +rw /dev/wacom
