Launching MotionSampler
To launch MotionSampler from Alias, click-drag down the Utilities menu to MotionSampler and release the mouse button.
To launch MotionSampler at a UNIX prompt, enter the command:
ms3
A red rectangle appears attached to the cursor. Click the mouse button and MotionSampler appears in the rectangle.
Command-line Arguments
To automatically load a wire file when you start MotionSampler, type the name of an Alias wire file after ms3 when you start the application as follows:
ms3 [-e <errorlog>] [-fps <val>] [-i] [-p <project name>] [-shape <1/0>] [-tess <U-val V-val>] [-
txt <1/0>] [-wire <filename>]
where:
-e <errlog>
writes errors to the specified file rather than to the standard Alias errlog file.
-fps <val>
specifies a value as the frames/second value for reading and writing wire files. Because MotionSampler always considers data in terms of time rather than frame number, setting the fps value has no effect on playback speed. However, at an fps value of 60, 1 second of animation writes 60 frames to an Alias wire file, and at 30 fps, that same second occupies only 30 frames. The fps value is meaningful only when reading or writing Alias wire files that contain time data in the form of frames.
-i
displays the MotionSampler version number, compile date information and then exits MotionSampler.
-p <project name>
sets the project directory to the given file or directory name.
-shape <1/0>
turns ShapeShifter loading and tessellation on (1) or off (0). The default is On, 1.
-tess <U-val V-val>
sets the default tessellation level for uniform tessellation in U and V on objects loaded into MotionSampler.
-txt <1/0>
turns texture map loading on (1) or off (0). The default is set according to the type of hardware that MotionSampler is running on. For most Indy and Indigo2 systems the default is usually Off (0).
-wire <filename>
specifies the name of the wire file to be loaded.
MotionSampler looks for the file where wire files are stored in the current project, usually the directory called wire. If the file exists, MotionSampler loads it immediately.
