Our first night at CJ has passed, and now on Saturday afternoon we've got free time. Some of the Scouts are hanging out by their tents, at right. Here's a quick tour of our site. The green shelter at left was the dining shelter, where our troop's cooking, eating, and clean-up took place. All of the silver-coloured tents belonged to our troop. I believe I slept in the one directly to the left of the picnic table. A lot of us spent our free time at this picnic table - I don't know why it was there in the first place - it was our main evening hangout, where we talked, had some laughs, traded badges with passers by, and hung out with our friends from other troops. Those were some of the best times at CJ, just hanging out at the picnic table. At the far left of this photo are some Scouts trading badges with our neighbours, the 4th Whithorse troop. The blue shelter directly behind our site belonged to our other neighbours, whom I believe were the 205th Woodbine troop from Calgary. At the far right, directly behind the Calgary troop, was the site of the 1st Seaforth, Ontario troop, who became the victims of an overpriced custom-made T-shirt made by one of our guys!
Time for a self-guided tour of the jamboree to pass the time on Saturday afternoon. Here I am standing near the entrance to our subcamp, Wolf, where the X-centre can be seen in the background. At far left is the entrance to the showers.

My Saturday afternoon jamboree tour continues. Here I am near the top of a cliff overlooking Malpeque Bay. If I remember correctly, this was in the Elk Subcamp. No guarantee on the name, though. All I knew for sure at this point was that I couldn't take too many steps to my right...after all, CJ has just begun and I don't want to spoil the adventure!

It was worth the trip all the way from Ontario, if it was just to see this magnificent cliff! PEI has many of these red cliffs along its shoreline, and if you've ever been to PEI you know how beautiful they are.

We're now heading to opening ceremonies on Saturday evening. Looks like quite a large crowd is already gathered! The black gamma shape at left was the back side of the stage where ceremonies took place.

Everyone's revved up for opening! Anybody from the 2nd recognize the guy on the far right?

The "Mascot Contest" is under way at opening ceremonies on Saturday July 7th. If you look closely you can see Wally the Wolf on stage.

Some more opening, from a slightly higher vantage point. Looks like some pretty important people get to sit in those chairs on the left, judging by their state of emptiness and surroundings of yellow tape.

Annick Gagnon is now performing on the opening stage, and I've moved up closer to the stage along with these other guys looking for a better view of Gagnon. This is the closest I got without causing a stampede.

On Sunday July 8th, I got to see this white Siberian tiger at the X-centre. Here various exotic animals were brought out and shown to the spectators.

It's the afternoon of Tuesday July 10th, and we're at the clam bake (mussel boil) listening to this local man play some music. Like the boy with the yellow hat at right, a lot of us took a snooze during this lull in activities after nearly six days of travel and activity.
