Drawing bugs and other creatures of all types

Grade: Kindergarten /1st grades

Materials:
12 x 18 construction paper
watercolors
Crayons
Or oil pastels also
brushes
water basins
sharpie pens -- optional
blotters

Prep: Water in basins, Paper out and cut to size . Write Names on the papers, following the seating chart.

Spiritual Inspiration;

Activity: Students will draw Bugs step by step with the teacher.

1. Drawing step by step, Students can follow the teacher and draw different types of bugs. I usually use the method of first the eye, then the mouth, and then the body and head of the animal. This will direct the size of the animal. This isn't necessary, just the learning style I use..

2. Next the students will draw more bugs, using these guidelines, and replicating what they can remember

3. Add Grass stems and flowers when the picture is finished

4. When the picture has been drawn , water color with lots of watered down green watercolor paint. Kindergartners want to "gob" the paint on, and I really discourage this.

Objectives:
Use Creativity and Imagination to make something all their own
Understanding the use of line (design elements), composition, and color
Understand the use of color -Bright colors_ when creating something to attract attention
Encourages imagination and Creativity.

Eslar Targets: #2 Communication. Using what students have learned and creating an artist expression. #1Following directions #3 Spiritual -- God's creation big and Small
