Lesson on Cartoon Face Drawing
Grade: 3rd Grade
Pumpkin Gallery Fall 2002
Materials: Pumpkins - one per student
About 8-10" in diameter
Acrylic Paints - White black, red, green,
Yellow, Blue, brown
Water Basins
Brushes
Cover tables with paper
Scratch paper
Cartoon Face samples
Sharpy permanent pens
Activity: Learn to draw cartoon faces. Draw on to a pumpkin and
paint the face
1. Talk about cartoon like faces. Demonstrate eyes, noses, mouths
And draw a few faces for samples.
2. Students can draw faces on scratch paper and pick out 1 or 2
favorites
3. Students draw their favorite face on the pumpkin with sharpie
pens.
Emphasis on size and placement of the eyes to begin with. Then draw
in the nose and mouth area.
4. Students paint in the design with acrylic paints. I also demonstrate
how acrylic paints are different from watercolors and require little
if any water.
Objectives: Fun activity for students to experience the fun of Cartoon
drawing and incorporate
into a fun face to take home and display.
Use of Acrylic Paints, which are different from watercolor paints
Design element of Composition - Face drawing. Think about size,
placement, expressions in design.
Step by step cartoon - drawing lessons
Eslar Targets -- #2 Critical thinking - must think about where
to paint, how to paint and
different texture from watercolors.
#3 Spiritual - witness to what is good in our life and not the evil
in the world.(Halloween)
