In the SBCS ARt Room
Here I am. That is me! I love to paint sunsets!! I am your teacher today and I am so glad to be.
A littel bit about Mrs. Harnsberger I will begin my 7th year teaching art at Santa Barbara Christian School . I am so glad to be here and I enjoy teaching all the different grades and kids. I have taught all kinds of art classes over the years. I first started when in college teaching crafts during YMCA camps. Later I taught arts and crafts of all kinds at summer day camps, for handicap children and adults and many family camps. I have taught children in pre-school, Elementary school, Junior HIgh: and I have taught adults 101 years of age, when I organized arts and crafts in a home for the elderly. But mostly, I have learned so much from all the students I have had the experience of working with. I attended El Camino college and Cal Poly Pomona Graduating with a BS degree in 1974. I majored first in Liberal studies, later switching to Outdoor Education (under the Recreation Admin. Major) I originally thought I would be a Program Director for the YMCA, etc. No I wasn't an Art Major as most people assume. I have taken a lot of art classes during my college days and later on. During these past years I have taken a variety of different art classes, ranging from Watercolor, china painting, decorative arts, quilting, ceramics, leather work and many many more. Also, I have taught over a 100 adult classes, mostly in decorative arts. In 1994 I began working for SBCS after my last child graduated from eight grade. 1996, I became the ARt Teacher. I invested in refreser courses , most beneficial was the Disciplined Based ARt Education Class I took Through the Getty Institute in the summer of 1996. My classes have all benefited from the lessons I learned from this one 2 week intensive institute. I have also had classes through the Mono Brooks "Drawing with Chfildren" courses, and "Drawing on the Right side of the Brain" with Betty Edwards. These particular classes have helped me the most as an art teacher. My husband Fritz and I have have raised 3 great kids and now I have the pleasure of watching you, my students grow up also. I live in Santa Barbara with lots of oak trees around me and a old 1860's Bridge in my backyard. I love to garden, and also of course, practice my own art also. My favorite is painting pictures of flowers and yes, sunsets also. I am pretty handy with a camera also, the influence of all the Brookes Institute students I have had around me these past years. I love to hear from my students and you write me.
