SRR Ra`KalenChapter Ninety-Six: The Taking of the Jaren
[Surface, ch'Bril]

Kuro had just given Elq leave to scout out the location of the other platoon. He tapped a few keys on an ISD focusing on the schematic very intently. After a moment he calls the group together and gives them the gist of things.

tr`Kuro> Our objective is the Tal Shiar vessel, Jaren. Its a three deck war ship, suitable for our needs. However, there are people who must be convinced that we deserve it. Its currently based at a shipyard two clicks north of our position. Heavy resistance is eminent.

tr`Byrot>Sir, what are our chances of taking the position?

tr`Kuro> Have you heard of Commander Cu`Stard`s Last Stand?

tr`Byrot>No, sir I haven`t

tr`Kuro> Good ::returns his attention to the mission:: Check all ammo, get everything you`re taking with you and get in formation. Failure is not an option. Miera?

t`Kethry> Ie?

tr`Kuro> you take half the troops on this ridge and scour the yard, I will take a small unit forward and hold position. Do the basic "shoot and scoot" maneuvers until we have the position.

t`Kethry> ::nod seeming a little detached:: Right

After a moment, the clearing they took refuge in was vacant. Further into the woods, violent fighting broke out before anyone had expected it. Kuro had moved ahead to scout, leaving the rest of the squad to follow. A small training unit had been running exercises in the surrounding brush before they were stumbled upon by the platoon. Being a combat unit, they opened fire immediately, taking the Marines by surprise.

tr`Byrot>::jerks as he is flung back by a green pulse::

tr`Kuro> fvadt! ::reels around and blasts into the woods::

t`Kethry> ::dives for cover, making her way over to tr`Byrot::

ACTION> The marines push forward, overrunning the small unit, after a brief melee they scatter

tr`Kuro>Establish a perimeter! Clear up! ::looking over his sights::

t`Kethry> ::working feverishly to patch up Byrot, sealing the wounds and treating the vicious burns::

tr`Kuro>::signalling to a few of his men to move ahead as he provides cover::

t`Kethry> ::holding Byrot in her lap, the massive contusions and searing flesh having healed up:: I did it ! I fixed the wound! He's going to

ACTION>her face is lit by a plasma charge, bits of brain and cartilage splatter all over her.

t`Kethry>::cradling the headless corpse:: Can`t you give me a chance!! Just one bleeding chance!!! ::she snatches up Byrot`s pistol forcing herself to her feet:: Kllhe!! ::fires into the woods::

The squad sat on the ridge above the shipyard. Kuro sat near the edge, scouting out the site. A few guards, but relatively no soldiers due to the deployment to other locations. He nodded having decided the situation was getting no better. He addresses the group "cover fire, you seven follow me" Meira sits at the base of the ridge, shuddering slightly, bantering to her self quietly. Kuro assumed she was shaken up from the incident with Byrot, he let her be

A blast erupted amidst the patrol sending troops everywhere. The assault team ran into position beneath the cover fire. Holding ground, Kuro and his group skillfully picked off the skeleton crew of guards. After relieving the final resistance by way of kalen<> and hand tactics, they stormed the vessel. After sweeping each deck, they arrived quickly on the bridge.

ACTION> the ship rocks as a frantic crew fumbles controls, unleashing a shot that splinters part of the capitol building, miles away

tr`Kuro> ::heaves his blade into an officer, diving under fire::

tr`Jindan>::dispatches a crewman with his pistol::

t`Sevron>::hurls a plasma grenade down a corridor::

ACTION> a few crewmen run out and are gunned down consequently before the corridor rumbles with the explosion

With that, the ship is captured. Kuro sits at command immediately. T`Kethry is made comfortable and placed under observation for her odd behavior. The assault team does another complete sweep of the vessel as Kuro patches into the interface directly and lifts the craft off of the surface.

Tr`Kuro Sits in the command throne hardwired into the ships systems. The computer uplink jamming into his skull as the craft jerked against the planets gravity finally attaining escape velocity. Kuro had run planetary scans and found no life forms matching the signature of Nerik`s platoon or what was left of his own. The trails of many, many ships were left in the area, and the Kalen as well as other ships showed up on his scanners. Kuro had a pounding headache from running all of the ships function directly out of his skull, but that only fueled necessity. He pulled the vessel into a direct course for the other craft. The rest of the crew were getting much needed rest with the exception of two other officers: t`Sevron, and tr`Jindan. Tr`Jindan was on patrol and t`Sevron had been ordered to assure t`Kethry and the other officers in the medbay were alright.

After long, the ship reached the fighting. The Kalen appeared slightly brutalized and the other Kalen class vessels seemed in good condition. They were headed out of the system as fighters closed on the vessels and cut loose with a barrage. Kuro quickly responded, surprising everyone by reeling about and cutting loose with the ships entire weapons array. Disruptor fire made light work of them despite their evasive actions. The small craft never stood a chance. The Kalen pulled ahead and left the system as Kuro finished up the retreating craft, leaving only one fighter that outsped his craft headed for the planet.

Kuro smiled to himself as his mind set back to the task of finding out what was going on with his ship. He pulled about and laid in a pursuit course. By now his headache had died down as his body adjusted to the interface. He would have liked to have someone else patched into the other systems but they were not conditioned nor attuned to the Tal`Shiar`s mental interface. He had heard the hail from the unidentified craft, but he didn`t have the time nor the patience to respond. He was not in the mood to negotiate. He wanted to be back on the Kalen and the only way to do that was to ascertain who was in command of that vessel. He increased speed to catch up with it and opened a frequency .

tr`Kuro> +com+ This is the SNR Ullho`Isha, Identify your allegiance.

tr`Kandeen> +com+ This is the SNR Kalen, Erie`Riov Kandeen Who am I speaking to?

tr`Kuro> +com+ erie`Arrain tr`Kuro, You`d better explain to me why Raith isn`t in command of that vessel immediately

tr`Kandeen> +com+ Raith is currently on the J`tol, I am acting CO until further instructions are given

tr`Kuro> ::growls to himself quietly, patching a frequency to the J`tol::

tr`Kuro> +com+ SNR Ullho`Isha to the J`tol

tr`Raith>+com+ Ie Arrain, can I aid you?

tr`Kuro> +com+ Explain the situation

tr`Raith>::pauses, obviously scanning the vessel:: +Com+ as I can see we are using similar interfaces, as you can see I can not remove myself from the vessel at this time. Kandeen was readily available for the position.

tr`Kuro>::visibly grimaces:: +com+ and the crew?

tr`Raith>+com+mostly alive, do you require anything?

tr`Kuro>+com+ A med officer and perhaps someone to take over a few of these systems temporarily.

tr`Raith> +com+ Lau Kunel, She can run the other systems and meet the medical requirements.

tr`Kuro>+com+ Ie ::closes the frequency switching back to the Kalen:: +com+ Ullho to Kandeen

tr`Kandeen> +com+ Go ahead

tr`Kuro>+com+ Request that you lower your sheilds and beam t`Pranara over. Medical assistance is required

tr`Kandeen >+com+ Affirmative, but why don`t you beam them over here?

tr`Kuro> +com+ First I need a staff and second, I myself require assitance to run the vessel

tr`Kandeen> +com+ Understood
