[On the surface of the planet]
"...I gave him a C minus." tr'Ragarok said with a smile. He then looked
around. He had NOT, in fact, beamed in front of the band that was sent there
to kill the Regent. He had locked on to tr'Riam's com badge, assuming he
would be with his platoon. He was not. tr'Ragarok looked down at the burnt
corpse of his former roommate. Donal thought to himself -Fvadt (Damn)! I
wasted probably the BEST entrance of my life ON A CORPSE! Fvadt it all!- The
science officer snapped out of his remorse for a second to see the Regent
trying to sneak away. tr'Ragarok reached out and grasped the Regent by the
shoulder. "Where do you think you're going, eh?"
The Regent sort of grinned
sheepishly. "Uh, nowhere, Vaed'Rehai. You're going to try to kill me, aren't
you?"
"Of course.", the science officer replied without hesitation. "Actually, not
me personally. I could never dream of harming a former student of mine.
Although you apparantly didn't pay too much attention in class, as you feel
for THE OLDEST TRICK IN THE BOOK! You should know what all a communications
array. Here, read this for homework." tr'Ragarok reached into his sack and
pulled out a small display unit, and handed it to the Regent.
"Yes,
Vaed'Rehai!" the Regent responded, and began to dilligently research, which
is why he didn't notice immediatly that tr'Ragarok once again reached into
his sack and took out a small device, which he placed on the Regent's back.
The Regent then stopped moving.
"I've placed a small, personal stasis device on you so you don't give me any
more trouble. Now, since there's a dead crewmember here," pausing briefly to
look down on the dead body that had once been a part of the crew who's
"recruitment" had been done by Donal. He then resumed. "They can't be too
far. Hmm, if I had access to that comm room again..."
tr'Ragarok touched
several buttons on his modified communicator, and beamed back to the
communications room he had come from. The Regent and the chief of science
shimmered into the communications room. tr'Ragarok quickly glanced around
the controls- the guards of the base had almost taken down the force field
he had erected. Time for quick thinking. tr'Ragarok made a broad band
communication and held a weapon up to the Regent. "All troops, stand down. I
have the Regent prisoner." tr'Ragarok held his quark dissambler up to the
Regent.
All motor functions except those in his head were halted, so the
Regent reluctantly stated, "Yes. He has me."
tr'Ragarok took control of the communication again. "So, umm... stand down!
And stop trying to break the forcefield!" tr'Ragarok glanced at the
displays. His carrier wave had worked- He had found his platoon!
tr'Ragarok accessed the comm network again, and contacted the platoon.
"tr'Ragarok to tr'Nerik"
"tr'Nerik here, Ragarok, I thought that was you! What was that about
standing down? Did we win?"
"Your guess is as good as mine." tr'Ragarok glanced at the displays again.
"I think I found the ship, I'll beam your platoon, along with me, up. Oh,
and I'll bring the Regent with me" tr'Ragarok utilized the controls, and
beamed tr'Nerik's platoon to the Kalen. He then attached a device to the
communications display. He used the array to drop the force field, and to
beam himself and the Regent up. Just as tr'Ragarok was beaming up and waving
good-bye, the first guard to burst in the room noticed a small display on
the device he had left. It simply read: Hwi (One). The guard didn't read
anything after that. Ever.
