SRR Morrahe`VnuChapter Eighty-One: It Lived in the Kalen
[Computer Core of the Empress' Time Weapon....]

Rylan waits a little longer, then peeks in to see if D`Tarik was okay. "All clear?" he asks, then hesitantly steps in when he sees DT still standing.

"Jee...hann`yyo Rylan." D`Tarik grumbles sarcastically. "I thought au trusted me a little!" he shakes his head, clearly insulted. "I'm na even appreciated in my own time! Ie...it's fine."

Rylan shrugs at that, heading over to a panel, "It's na that I don't trust *au* DT..."

"So," Yhylk steps in, interrupting Rylan's explanation, "Are they dying?"

"They are dead." D`Tarik answers flatly.

Yhylk looks down, "Ah. Shall I dispose of the bodies, then?"

"Ie." Rylan answers, pulling open one of the panels, "Incase some-io else comes in."

As Yhylk starts dragging the bodies away to hide them D`Tarik suddenly warns, "Whatever au do, don't shoot the bodies..." Yhylk looks down at the body he's dragging, winces, then continues on as D`Tarik speaks, "It would be bad."

Looking over the data rods carefully, Rylan begins to take out a few. "Bad how?" he asks, not bothering to stop what he's doing, "We don't exactly want them found anytime soon...."

"Well, for some reason the disruptor bolt reacts to the structure of the gas, and each individual cell that makes up the gas bursts into flames." D`Tarik says, using the long-about route to the explanation.

"Okay...so they'll burst into flames." Ry shrugs, not really paying attention to what's been said, just concentrating on stealing the appropriate rods of information. "Either way, they'll be gone, right?"

"Na." D`Tarik almost smirks, "Au don't understand. All of the individual cells will burst into flames. Meaning...the body will explode."

"Ah!" Ry pauses, finally hearing what's being said, "Okay then! Just say that they'll explode next time." he smirks. "Hey DT...see if au can call up a layout of the ship now..." he inserts one of the data rods into a reader, and nods at the terminal beside him, before going back to acquiring more information.

D`Tarik crosses the room to stand beside the taller boy, and types on the key pad a moment. A layout of the ship appears, but no rooms are marked to show what they are. "This..." DT announces, "is the best I could come up with."

Glancing over to see, Rylan shakes his head, "Fvadt. Well, let's hope we can find our way to that lounge..."

"It's probably io of the bigger rooms..." D`Tarik offers hopefully, glancing back at the screen.

Handing off a few data rods to DT, Rylan shrugs, "Here, au take some of these as well. Just in case. Any lifeforms on the scanners?"

D`Tarik glances at the scanner, before taking the data rods Rylan held out. "Na io close by." As D`Tarik stores the stolen object away in his lab coat, he watches Rylan re-arrange the remaining data-rods within the panel, then close it, only to open another a moment later. "May I?" DT asks hopefully, feeling a little like a third wheel.

Taking a look at the panel a moment and not finding what he wanted, Rylan nods, "Ie...go ahead." he steps over to another panel to open it.

"Neat!" DT happily exclaims and peers at the data rods exposed. Not having a clear idea of what he is doing when it comes to computer systems, he randomly removes some of the data rods and replaces them with his own data storage rods that contained holoprograms he had been working on.

"Ah! Here we are!!" Rylan grins happily, taking out a few transparent floppy-disc-looking things. He squirrels away four such floppies into his own pockets, then passes a few off to DT and some to Yhylk as well. "*Don't* lose these." he warns the other two with a stern look. Picking up a few more floppies, he then crosses the room to a terminal. "DT, do au have any kind of explosive on au...io that can be set with a timer or remote?"

"Well... I have something that I could quickly re-program to kind of destroy a few things...but na explosives."

Yhylk nods at this, "I have some explosives rekkhai...but na-thing with a timer."

"I can make a timer!" DT suddenly interjects and holds up one of his cyborg-spiders, "With this!"

Rylan slips a floppy-disc into a terminal and calls up a layout of the ship, then downloads the info to an isd. "Then do it." He nods distractedly. "Let me know when au have got it ready. Yhylk, give DT the explosives, and keep ninte eye on the scanners. Let me know the instant some-io's coming."

"Ie, rekkhai..." Yhylk nods, passing off the explosive charges as he takes the scanner from D`Tarik.

"I'll need somebody's watch..." D`Tarik asks hopefully.

Rylan takes off his chrono and tosses it over his shoulder with, "Heads up DT..." then goes back to sorting quickly through the floppies in his hand. D`Tarik misses the catch horribly, and winces to see Rylan's chrono bounce on the floor a few times before it slides across the floor to come to a slamming halt against a console. Crossing the room to pick it up, DT's surprised the watch is still ticking. Shrugging, figuring the chrono was made to endure combat, he heads over to a small desk and begins to set about his task.

Rylan, finding what he's looking for, starts to change a few lines of coding here and there. When he's finished with that particular floppy, he inserts another and does it again. After five or so floppies have been dealt with in the same manner, he picks them up and crosses the room to replace them back where he had taken them from; smirking to know that the virus will wreak all kinds of chaotic mess when activated.

As Rylan's form passes by the desk he's working at, D`Tarik explains apologetically, "I don't really have the equipment with me for this...." as a few sparks fly. "And this is na my main field of expertise...what kind of explosives are these?"

Yhylk shrugs, "Just low caliber. Meant more as a diversionary tactic, really. It'll hurt au plenty if au`rh near it...but it doesn't have a very big damage radius." he explains apologetically. "It won't turn this room to a complete shambles, at any rate."

Ry shakes his head. "It'll do. I just want to mess up the control panels in here. Something they can't fix right away...."

"Okay, that's good." D`Tarik nods at Yhylk's explanation, "Because the timer's set for 30 seconds...." the other two officers blanche at this statement, and turn their horrified eyes to the biologist, "Na...wait...I looked at it wrong. It's 30 siuren-a."

A look of relief comes over Rylan's face, as he clutches a hand over his left side to start his heartbeat again, "Don't scare me like that!!" turning to Yhylk he nods, "Contact the other team. Tell them that they'll have 30 surien-a to find the engineering core and meet us at the lounge." He holds the isd with the ships layout towards him, "See if au can remote-download this to them somehow. And tell them na to use the lifts! They'll need to use the maintenance tunnels." he grins evilly a moment, then pauses at DT`s next announcement.

"Na wait! 20 siuren-a!" he looks up apologetically at Rylan, "It lost 10 siuren-a when I set the timer for some reason. It would've helped to have the right equipment to do this...."

"Make that 20 surien-a." Rylan instructs Yhylk, frowning at DT.

"And I can't get the fvadt spider to stop walking!" D`Tarik holds up the cyborg-creature. It has the timer on it's top, and an explosive charge on the bottom, and it's little mechanical legs are twitching furiously. "I`m sorry, Rylan!" he shrugs again by way of apology, "This is na exactly my field of expertise!"

Snatching the cyborg creature out of DT's hand, Rylan doesn't even look at it as he asks in all seriousness, "What will happen if I break the legs...."

"The bomb will go off." DT nods.

Rylan grumbles to himself furiously a moment, then suddenly lights up. His other hand snakes out, and before DT knew what was happening, Rylan rips the 'chest belt' off of DT and uses it to tie the cyborg-spider-bomb to the main computer core. "There!" he exclaims, standing back proudly, "That'll do it!"

Rubbing his chest, as having that belt suddenly ripped off his person had actually hurt a little, D`Tarik nods, "See....it worked out in the end. Sorry, that's the best I could do with the time we had." he pauses then throws the taller boy a hurt look, "Au don't have to be so rough..."

"Sorry DT." Ry says on his way to the door. "Any io out there now?"

Yhylk had just finishing notifying the other team and the Wildstrike of the plans, and had figured out a way to send the layout of the ship through to the isd that Aeris t`Rharin had, looks up to hear DT's reply.

"Ie...three officers are heading this way." DT's quiet voice warned, "And at the angle they're approaching, I think they're headed for this room...."

Rylan, pulling out his pistol and the 'special kalen' flattens himself against the wall by the door. "If au`rh armed, now's a good time..." he warns. Both DT and Yhylk draw their own disruptors and get behind the main computer core for cover.

The three officers enter the room and pause, not expecting to see emptiness where they had been expecting to see the rest of the computer core staff. The one closest to Ry spots the boy with weapons drawn and his back pressed up against the wall. The Imperial reaches for his own disruptor, "What are au..." and is rewarded by having the special kalen pushed just under his ribcage, lifting him up slightly. Rylan immediately pushes the green button, almost grinning at the dying officer on the other end of the kalen.

Yhylk, having heard the words of one of the Imperials cut off in mid-sentence, peeks out and takes quick aim with a disruptor, almost hitting one of the other interlopers, but the shot hits the door-frame instead.

Rylan feels something go fast through the handle of the kalen, and through the blade itself into the body of the Imperial. Letting go of the kalen's hilt, the officer's body falls to the ground. Something moves under the man's skin, travels down his arm, and comes out the back of the Imperial's hand. The thing looks about seven inches long, and has many tiny spiked feet. It looks to be black, but with so much green blood covering it, it's difficult to tell. The creature has a round little mouth full of tiny little silvery-flashes of fangs. No eyes could be seen on the thing, but it had little syth-looking arms on each side near it's head. It squirms over to the next Imperial and crawls up the man's leg, then enters him through the back of the knee. The Imperial screams, clutching at his leg, and falling to his other knee as the creature eats it's way through his flesh.

The grin had died on Rylan's face at seeing the beast, to be placed by a look of horror instead. Feeling incredibly guilty for unleashing a monster on a fellow Rihannsu, Rylan does the only thing he could do for the one being eaten. He raises his pistol and vaporizes the officer and the monster both.

"See..." D`Tarik nods from the safety of his hiding spot, though Rylan couldn't hear him, "As I said, way too fvadt aggressive for healing. Good thing that's the only io of those I ever made. I had na idea it would be so...." the smaller boy turns quiet as his face reflects the paleness of Rylan's own shocked features.

The one Imperial left, raises his own pistol at the boy who stands in shock before him. DT suddenly jumps up, and hoping that this will make up for that little mistake of his kalen creation, takes several shots at the remaining Imperial, vaporizing him.

That seemed to wake Rylan up, and he looks over at DT. "Au okay, Rylan?" D`Tarik asks quietly, stepping out from around the computer core. The smaller boy shrugs, hoping Rylan wasn't mad at him for creating such a thing, "I got the other io, if au didn't notice..."

Still looking rather pale, Rylan nods, "Um, ie. Yhylk, au still have the isd I gave au?" he turned to the keypad control on the side of the door, opens it, and rips the wires from their connection, sealing the door closed.

"Ie, rekkhai..." Yhylk holds it out. Rylan takes it, then heads to a panel in the wall and opens it, revealing the maintenance tunnels.

"I'm sorry about that little monster..." DT apologizes hopefully, "It was untested...and as I said, I knew it didn't do what I had originally made it for.." he looks from one boy to the other awkwardly.

Rylan nods at DT, knowing the boy had been just as surprised as he had been himself by the whole thing, "It's okay. Let's just na...think about that anymore, all right?"

"Okay." DT nods, growing quiet.

Rylan motions the other two into the tunnel, climbs in himself, and replaces the panel. The trio head off to the lounge, using the isd for a guide.
