Update to Dictionary of Honduran
Colloquialisms, Idioms and Slang
Since its publication in March 2001, some significant mistakes have been
found in Dictionary of Honduran Colloquialisms, Idioms and Slang that
merit immediate correction. Furthermore, the author continues to encounter new
words and expressions, as well as additional meanings to previous entries.
Accordingly, the aim of this web site is to provide regular updates to
the dictionary, including
modifications of entries, corrections and words not included in the first
edition. A list of additional
reference works consulted is also included.

NICKNAMES
Except for a few entries, Dictionary of Honduran Colloquialisms, Idioms
and Slang does not deal with the nicknames of political figures and
prominent citizens of Honduras, which are widely used in the written press -
especially in political gossip columns. The article Quin es quien en el
mundo de los apodos and the list that accompanies it, published in the
Tegucigalpa daily La Tribuna (p.9-B, Saturday, February 9, 2002),
provides the nicknames of many current and historical public figures. Given that
many nicknames have been coined since the article's publication, a second list
has been prepared to include those new names and any nicknames of historical
figures that had been left out of the first list, as well as some political
acronyms and terms. Both the article and lists are in Spanish.

INTERNET RESOURCES
During the compilation and research phase, several Web
sites provided invaluable assistance or insight into the meaning and origin
of many words in the dictionary, while other sites were of enormous assistance
in confirming the spelling and accuracy of scientific names of mammal, reptile,
insect, fish and plant species.
