CALL FOR DONATIONS TO REHABILITATE TSUNAMI VICTIMS AND HABITAT'S IN SRI LANKA

Our above organization was requested to help in the rehabilitation of the tsunami devastated areas in the environmental and social welfare fields, we have accepted the proposals, approved by the Coast Conservation dept. and the Urban Development Authority, to rehabilitate the Crow Island Sea Side Park, which was devastated by the tsunami of Dec.26th, 2005, (by planting suitable trees/shrubs to prevent sea/wind erosion), please ref. attached letter dated 25th.Jan.2005. As an immediate relief we established a counseling center for post tsunami trauma victims at our project site, at Bangamukande Estate Pitigala, Galle, for one month accommodating 20 affected individuals and caring with the help of well wishes.
Rehabilitating the tsunami devastated beach's are scheduled to commence on Jan. 31st, 2005, with a cleanup of the 3 km 'Crow Island Beach strip' at Colombo North, the first rehabilitation project site. Participation is by all 'LORRIS' umbrella organizations and student groups.

Donations of money by individuals or groups for these activities would be much appreciated. Also as our NGO is registered with the dept. of Social Services as a charity organization we are able to acknowledge receipt of donations officially which could be used by the donors to claim tax exemptions from their local authorities if and when needed.

'LORRIS' has been involved in habitat restorations and conservation education for secondary and university students, local and foreign, during the past four years. Our combined research efforts have resulted in, an undescribed primate a new species of red loris (read American Society of Primatologists bulletin June 2004 page 6 for details Website www.asp.org/society/bulletin/2004Jun.pdf) and an undescribed amphibian a tree frog, been added to a continuing list.

As a voluntary organization we depend on the goodwill of well wishes to continue our work. Please contribute with whatever you can, to the following bank acct:
