Usagi is as about to become a monster, but her own power as Sailor Moon turns her back to normal. However, the black ring of hair around her neck appears briefly, indicating that it isn't over... Meanwhile, Kunzite goes to the Dark Kingdom and meets Queen Beryl and Nephrite. He shows an arrogance that neither Beryl nor Nephrite seem too happy about, and requests that he be allowed to restore "the evil" using the energy of the Sailor Guardians.
Usagi, Ami, Rei and Makoto are having a late New Year party (because Rei was busy on New Year's Day) in the secret room at Karaoke Crown, which involves food, drinks, games, karaoke and Nakonako cosplay (kupi!). However, Usagi suddenly faints. Luna explains the situation, and explains that only Sailor Moon's power can heal people in this situation. Makoto goes off to try and find Kunzite, while Rei goes to her temple to try and help from there using her power. Left alone with Luna and Usagi, Ami notices that Usagi's pulse is slowing and attempts to carry her out. Mamoru is in the reception area and helps to carry her to Ami's house, where Mamoru puts her in Ami's bed. Ami stays by her bedside all night, monitoring her vital signs with a computer, while Usagi's growing fingernails signal that she is getting worse. Ami phones Usagi's mother and lies to explain the situation, and does the same when Naru visits to get a CD that she had let Usagi borrow. All the while, Mamoru stands outside Ami's house.
Ami wakes up, as Usagi is in a critical condition and about to awaken as a monster! But it's just a dream... Ami wakes up for real to find that Usagi is extremely cold. Suddenly, a wind of black rose petals blows through the window and engulfs Usagi, spiriting her away. She runs out, past a surprised Mamoru, and transforms. Sailor Mercury arrives at a cave where Usagi lies. She is wearing a white dress and has her hair down, and Kunzite is standing over her, using his power to accelerate the process of Usagi turning into a monster, so that the other Guardians can be her first enemy. Sailor Mercury holds him off until Sailor Mars and Sailor Jupiter arrive, but then Kunzite knocks all of them down, and they watch as Usagi begins her transformation into a monster. Ami has silent flashbacks to various moments with her and Usagi since the two of them met, and over and over again she cries out for Usagi to stop... when suddenly, Usagi wakes up and tells her to shut up! Usagi is totally healed, and in typical Usagi fashion is confused about where she is. She transforms, and when Kunzite tries to attack her, Tuxedo Mask steps in and blocks the attack. Sailor Moon tries to attack Kunzite, but he runs away, and everyone is simply happy that this turn of events is over.
Later, while the girls are walking along, Usagi explains that she woke up because everyone was shouting at her so loudly! (Especially Ami, who was the loudest.) Luna interprets this a little differently - that it was everyone's feelings reaching Usagi. Usagi thanks everyone, then asks them to help her with her homework - at which moment they promptly run away.
(Anime/Manga Comparison)
Characters Introduced:
N/A
Important Events:
- Kunzite goes to the Dark Kingdom. Queen Beryl seems surprised - she thought he would live in the human world
- Kunzite mentions an evil that the Dark Kingdom is going to be revived using energy
- Furthermore, he requests that this task is entrusted to him, because Queen Beryl looks tired and should rest!
- While Queen Beryl doesn't seem too happy with Kunzite, Nephrite is (as you would expect) practically livid. Nephrite threatens to kill Kunzite if he does not go for Beryl's love, at which point Kunzite puts his sword to Nephrite's throat.
- The last point about Kunzite is that he says he will use the energy of the Sailor Guardians to revive the evil... it may well be that this continues to be his aim in the episodes following this one
- Mamoru carries Usagi to Ami's house and waits outside all night (it's clear that he genuinely cares about her)
- Ami's friendship with Usagi causes her to do things even she wouldn't have expected herself to do, like lying to Usagi's mother
- Ami uses a new technique: She asks the water to help her, and it forms into a short sword that she uses to block an attack from Kunzite (this sword then dissolves)
- Usagi is healed from Kunzite's attack at the end of the previous episode, and will not be turning into a monster anytime soon
- Kunzite says that Shin (the human with memory loss from the previous episode) never really existed in the first place
- While Luna previously thought that only Sailor Moon's power could heal people who had been turned into monsters, at the end of the episode she seems to believe that Usagi was healed by the feelings of Ami, Rei and Makoto (this could just be a throwaway plot device, but who knows?)
New Items:
- Ami's computer
New Attacks:
Although there are no new named attacks, Sailor Mercury uses a technique she has not used before, as described above.
