I finally bought a Third generation RX7. I always wanted one. Actually I wanted the yellow 93 R1. I think I also test drove most of the yellow ones in SF Bay area (test drove 5 yellow ones) . I couldn't afford it at the time but now I can't find any. A red car is OK I guess since the price was right at $15000 with 48K miles. Purchase date 4/8/98 just for my own record. My dream is still a yellow though (300 total in the U.S I read somewhere).
There was a boost leak when I first drove the car. A loud hissing could be heard coming from the passenger side. The car also felt weak with no power. I couldn't believe it and went test drove another car at local dealer. That car was making the same hissing sound. I posted my question to the RX-7 List and got the answer. It is a leak of some kind. I deceided to have the car checked out by Rotary shop before I buy it. The car checked out fine with no major things wrong. The hissing sound was a loose connection that leaked compressed air. It was fixed at the same time. The inspection costed $105 but I thought it was necessary since the 93 year had a lot of problems.
The first thing that I did was an oil, transmission (RedLine 75-90WNS) , rear end oil (Redline 75-90W) change.
I also added a Blitz Dual Turbo Timer which has a boost gauge built in. It has a green LCD display that turns red during count down. The cost was $124 plus $15 for the wire.
