This picture shows the factory R1 radio. Removal was easy using tools supplied by the stereo dealer. The two U-shaped tools goes in to the two sides of the radio and release the clip inside and the radio slides out. The same goes for the box on the bottom.
Radio and box removed. The RX7 has two standard DIN size holes but the depth are limited. I had a hard time putting the radio in since the wires took up all the space in the back. Putting just a CD or tape deck would be easy but when EQ and AMP wires are added, back space are very limited. I found that more depth are possible when the wires are push behind the steel thing in the back. My setup barely worked and this was after taking it in and out few times to adjust the position of the wires.
Factory rear speaker. Cheap speaker and must be replaced to get better sound quality.
I replaced my rear speakers with 5x7 Infinty speakers. These speakers just screw in the original place.
For the front I installed 5 1/4 as suggested by the radio dealer. The door panels are pretty easy to remove but the passenger side has a screw behind the power window switch.
I installed a Sony CD player controlling a 10 CD changer. I don't like Sony products anymore but I am stuck since my cd changer is Sony. The EQ is a Pioneer. This unit has a nice display and also controls the subwoofer output level. This setup looks really good at night but hard to read during the day.
The back has a 75X4 Crutchfield AMP that I bought years ago. The subwoofer is made by Bazooka which is a self powered sub. The cd changer is by Sony.
