November 2002
Pictures Index Home
Maggie was born on November 1, 2002 at exactly 8:30 pm.  I have written her birth story, but here are pictures from that very first magical day (some of the slightly more graphic pictures of her fresh from the womb, as well as my thoughts on motherhood, can be found here), and from the rest of her amazing first month in our world.
Just Minutes After Maggie's Birth
The proud new parents!
Maggie came a little quicker than expected, and Aunt Erin and Grammie Sally missed her birth by about twenty minutes.  Their disappointment was quickly forgotten as soon as they got to meet the new little punkin.
Maggie's First Two Days
Meeting Grandpa John for the first time, the day after she was born.
Slumbering peacefully in the hospital's bassinet.  I just love her fuzzy little head in this picture!
With Mommy and Daddy her first night home from the hospital.  I think it was about an hour later that I had my only major bout of the baby blues.  I found myself bawling because a) I wasn't pregnant anymore (huh? never expected that to upset me!) and b) I wondered who the hell ever decided I was mature enough to be a mom!  Fortunately, it only lasted about half a day and I've been fine ever since.
About to be discharged from the hospital, exactly 48 hours after she was born.  That's our medical insurance - always going above and beyond!  Gag.
Maggie's First Bath
Can you tell how much she loved it?
Whew!  All over!  But I'm still gonna hide...
With Friends and Family During Her First Month
Cuddling with Mommy and Daddy's good friend Amy, mid-November.  When Amy first booked her plane ticket, she expected to be helping out a very pregnant Michelle.  Little did she know she'd actually get to meet Maggie!
Maggie's first meeting with her great grandma, Nanny.
Hm, sleeping again.  Are you noticing a theme in most of these pictures?  It seems she was barely awake during that first month! Did you know that Aunt Erin makes a fabulous human chaise lounge?
Our First Thanksgiving as a Family of Three
General Cuteness
If you've seen Maggie's birth announcement, you know that this is the picture we used.  Believe it or not, she was not posed for this!  She curled herself up like that, and I was fortunate to grab the camera before she moved.
She is only seven days old here!  She smiled in her sleep a lot even before she started having "real" smiles.  This is the first smile we ever caught on camera.
I included this picture mostly to use as comparison to some of her other pictures in her bouncy seat.  I can't believe how she's grown in such a short time!  As of late January, the neck support roll touches the top of the seat when she is strapped in!
This one makes the cut for no other reason than she is so damn cute!
Apparently, babies today are learning to push up slower because of the Back to Sleep campaign to fight SIDS, as well as from the greater prevalence of swings, bouncy seats, etc, that keep them on their backs.  So it is recommended that you let them play on their tummies for a few minutes each day.  Many babies hate it, but Maggie really seems to enjoy it, and she's had a surprisingly strong neck from the beginning.
This is another favorite picture.  It is probably the first one we ever took of her looking very awake and alert.  Not surprisingly, it's from the very end of the month.
