Added a Neat New Feature to the Site
home
Nate and I got really creative tonight and recorded the baby's heartbeat on my laptop while we were listening to it.  Then we saved it to a disk, brought it down to our desktop, and added it to the site.  Listen to the heartbeat here. Other than that, today was not exciting at all.  We had a power outage for about an hour and a half tonight, but considering that it apparently affected a relatively large portion of the city, it came back up surprisingly quickly.  Nate called the paper to let them know what had happened, and they had already heard about it.  The editor there told him that 5,000 homes were already reported with no power.  We were really afraid of having a repeat of January, when a really terrible power outage kept us in the cold for 26 hours!  What makes it worse is that, since we're on a well, when we lose our power, we lose our water.  Kinda makes showering and going to the bathroom a bit difficult!  But like I said, it ended up being very short, so I don't have to worry about how I'll deal with my multitude of nightly bathroom visits tonight. :)

Strange Dream
They say pregnant women have weird dreams that somehow indicate their current fears and anxieties.  I don't know - I had a really weird one last night.  I dreamt that Nate and I lived in a dorm, quite specifically on the 3rd floor, and that Mom for some reason decided to randomly throw away our coffee table and everything on it.  (Incidentally, in the waking world Nate and I have been talking about moving our coffee table out of the family room since it seems overcrowded right now.)  I was horribly upset and bawling because there were some candles on it that were wedding gifts from Erin.  (Actually, the candles are real candles she's given me, but they weren't a wedding gift!)  Mom said I could go try to find it, she'd thrown it away on the 4th floor.  So I traipsed up there and couldn't find it immediately and was just hysterical.  At that point, Uncle Kevin arrived, who apparently lived on the 4th floor, and seeing my distraught state, somehow managed to find the table, but none of the things that were on it.  I just kept ranting and raving about, "How could she throw away my table and all my stuff without even asking me?"  Please, if anyone would like to take a crack at interpreting that one, I'd love to hear it! :)
I also swear I felt more movement last night, but the feeling is still so light that I can't decide for sure.  It seems to be kind of rhythmic and swishy.  Darn it, I want to feel a good kick!!  Enough of this, "Is it or isn't it?" stuff!
Not much else to report, though.  I'm finding myself ridiculously weepy.  I've been watching
A Baby Story on TLC pretty regularly since I got pregnant, but I actually cried today.  I don't know, maybe they were just a particularly cute couple, but I totally cried, which I haven't done before.  Also, the pain in my abdomen has really gotten pretty severe.  I called my doctor and they're going to have me come in for a quick visit tomorrow, although they don't seem terribly concerned.  Still, it is rather early for me to be feeling so much pressure/pain, so I suppose they just want to do an exam to make sure everything feels alright.  Nate and I listened to the heartbeat again tonight and it was strong and clear, so I'm not worried about the baby, but I am worried this could be the first sign of an impending complication.  Here's hoping that I just have a very sensitive abdomen!

Visit to the Doctor's Office
I saw the doc today about my abdominal pain/pressure.  He confirmed that most of the pain is just round ligament.  I said, "It's not too early?" and he said, "Not at all."  Which is funny, since when I called the office yesterday and talked to a nurse, I suggested that maybe it was just round ligament pain, and she said, "No, you're much too early for that."  Don't you just love conflicting information?  Anyway, he did an internal exam and I do have a spot that is quite tender that's not round ligament, so he ordered an ultrasound for tomorrow to see if I have a cyst or something.  While I certainly hope I don't have a cyst, I am excited to be getting an ultrasound because the baby's genitalia have a good chance of being visible (provided he/she cooperates and opens his/her little legs!), so we might even find out the sex tomorrow and I can quit with all this "he/she" crap.  :)
Other than that, today has been pretty uneventful.  I added a couple neat new things to the website (this is becoming addictive!).  First, there is now a page I jokingly call
"baby shtuff," which contains pictures of things we already own or plan on getting for the baby.  Second, I created an index page for my journal and changed the headers on the journal pages, which should make navigating it (and updating it!) much easier as it continues to grow.

Ultrasound #3
Well, I'm back from my ultrasound, and I still have no answers as to what is causing my pain.  Apparently, it must just be that I'm having very intense round ligament pain.  (Yesterday, there were two instances I almost cried from  the pain - once when I was walking up the stairs from our basement, and once when I picked up Scoop from the groomers and she was very excited and yanking her leash all over the place and me along with it.)  Lucky me, eh?  Well, I really do count myself lucky that I don't have a cyst or a fibroid (probably anyway, but I'll get to that in a second) and round ligament pain is supposed to decrease later in the second trimester.
The other good news is that the ultrasound was great.  Apparently, one of the pictures that the tech brought the doctor looked as though I might have a fibroid, so he came in to take a second look.  Upon further inspection, no fibroid seemed to be there after all.  He explained that sometimes a uterine contraction can make it look as if there is a fibroid where none exists.  Still, he said even if it was a fibroid, it was not very large and in no position to obstruct the birth canal, so it is not of any concern.
The baby looked great!  We were unable to determine the sex today <sigh> but other than that, everything went perfectly.  Preparation for the ultrasound was not so much fun  (you have to drink 32 oz. of liquid an hour in advance and then have them push practically directly on your bladder with the probe - I'm not sure that would be easy even if I
weren't pregnant and needing to pee all the time), but it was worth it.  For once, there was finally something that looked discernibly like a baby on the screen!  Click here to see the pictures. And the baby is measuring quite large.  I'm only 15w3d today, and the baby measured 16w3d, a whole week ahead.  Nate said that as he was watching the tech take the measurements, one of the calculations actually came out to 17 weeks!  So all appears to be well with both Mom and baby, and for that I am very thankful.
