CADD/GIS NT Servers Newsletters

I supervise six people in the CADD/GIS shop, provide direct technical support and training for four system administrators, and manage a 20 person Functional Work Group for Security and software installations.

I maintain a 1.4 million dollar infrastructure to include: installing, configuring and troubleshooting the organization's Ethernet Local Area Network (LAN), TCP/IP (four subnets), 100Mb backbone, 10Mb switched to the desktop, concentrator, switches, hubs, connectors, seven servers, two 25 bay CD-Net Towers, one 14 bay CD-Net Tower, Xerox Reproduction System (OCR/Printer), 60 printers, Microsoft (MS) Exchange Mail, MS Office suite Professional edition, MS NT Workstation version 4, MS NT 2000 Workstation, MS Windows 95/98, MS NT Server version 4, Veritas WinINSTALL, ClickNET, Interim Work Information Management System (IWIMS), Automated Civil Engineering System (ACES) RDBMS, associated network hardware and software in support of base civil engineering activities  for 13 remote sites and 225 clients.

The domain configuration consists of one Primary Domain Controller (PDC), three Backup Domain Controllers (BDC), and three member servers.

Servers run the following special software applications, MS SQL, MS IIS, Oracle, SABER, Autodesk AutoCAD LT98, R14 and 2000i network applications.

Over 90% of new software installations and upgrades are performed by Veritas WinINSTALL. This application enables us to automate processes through a central location on our network servers.  This prevents system administrators from having to manually perform various software loads for each client. WinINSTALL enables administrators to push and pull software packages at a clients login. Automation saves the organization hundreds of thousands of dollars, freeing up system administrators and users  to concentrate on their core functions.

ClickNET is used for tracking clients software and enabling system administrators to have remote control access  to clients through the LAN to troubleshoot and perform security checks.
