During my career in the United States Air Force I was very fortunate to have several Temporary Duty Assignments (TDY) to various locations around the world
in support of U2 operations. On my last TDY the Commander of the Detachment had
me suit up in what U2 pilots wear. The picture in the middle is where I am
riding the wing of a U2. The is referred to as "riding the wing."
The
following pictures were taken during January 1982 while our battle group
operated in the Indian Ocean and Persian Gulf. The carrier shown below is the
USS John F. Kennedy. The third picture (left to right) is of the USS Roanoke (my
first ship) performing an Underway Replenishment with the USS JFK on her port
side and a unknown DDG to her starboard side.

Stewart and myself on station during another Under Way Replenishment. The third
picture (left to right) was taken in Diego Garcia, showing the mileage from the
center of that island to various locations around the world.
