| Semi-Important News Concerning GeoCities |
| As some of you might have noticed, it has been tough accessing the Gundam Wing Colosseum. When you try to view this page, you might come along a page with a white background which says something along the lines of, "This website has exceeded the allotted data transfer, please check back in a few hours". Sometimes, these "few hours" seem to go on for a week. I apologize for this inconvenience, but GeoCities has e-mailed me something that can answer why this has happened. Dear GeoCities Member, Congratulations, http://www.geocities.com/gundam_wing_colosseum seems to be very popular and has been receiving a large amount of traffic. Our records indicate that you're using more than the allotted amount of data transfer we provide for a free web site, which is 3 gigabytes per month (measured on an hourly basis). That means that during the past few days we had to temporarily turn your site off to keep the bandwidth within this limit. What can I do? Keep in mind that large files such as images and multimedia files can effect your data transfer greatly. A single web page that contains 200,000 bytes of images will only be able to be viewed about 20-25 times an hour. By keeping your file sizes and page sizes as small as possible, you can maximize the amount of page views your site can produce. You can also upgrade your site to one of our new premium services, GeoCities Pro or GeoCities Webmaster. These packages allow for 10 and 20 gigabytes of data transfer per month, and also give you the option of purchasing unlimited data transfer so your site will always be accessible. These packages also enable you to run an ad-free site at your own domain name (for example, www.gundam_wing_colosseum.com) AND get matching email accounts at that domain (like you@gundam_wing_colosseum.com). Granted that GeoCities allows me 15 megs, but when it comes time to open my Gundam Wing Gallery, I will have to open another account and upload my pictures there, and make a link on this site, but this can easily be done. And what about this site you have now? Fifteen megs might seem like a lot, but with all the multimedia, pictures, etc. and with people visiting this website, it's not that much. I was planning to change the layout, but I'm afraid that the extra space that the pictures and background will greatly reduce the allocated data transfer that I am allowed to use, but this doesn't mean that the Gundam Wing Colosseum will remain EXACTLY as you see it. I will still try to change some things around and add some originality. Why don't you just purchase the GeoCities Pro, or pay for more gigs? Simply put, I don't want to spend money for my website. This isn't a growing business, nor is it something that I will actually spend money on. This is merely a fan site for others to enjoy. Money also doesn't come easily, so I have to save it up for university. As most of you already know, this is why I chose geocities to host my Gundam Wing site. It is free, and easy to use. (note: I'm not in any way trying to promote or sell GeoCities products) In Conclusion: Don't be shocked to find my page temporarily shut down.
