About Göreme

Göreme lies in the centre of Cappadocia (Kapadokya), a place of deep history, stunning landscapes and beautiful villages and towns.  Located in central Anatolia, Cappadocia is at the heart of modern day Turkey.

Its history dates back to the Hittite period, lasting through the Roman era to today's modern tourist destination.  

Göreme holds special interest for visitors as it is one of the only places where people still live and work in the famous "fairy chimneys" - cones of soft volcanic tuff eroded by the elements.  Nearby are countless rock formations and Byzantine churches to discover, as well as the rare chance to sleep in a cave pansion or fairy chimney.  Cappadocia also boasts a thriving local wine industry.

As well as being a convenient stopping off point for travellers traversing the country, central Cappadocia is a destination apart, offering tranquillity, history and breathtaking scenery.
