Starting a stepfile:
There has been an FAQ for quite some time featured on the main site of FFR, but I've made a slightly different version which is easier and makes use of Stepmania's file editor.  You can download it in .doc form here:

Nestlekwik's Guide to .dwi File Creation version 2.0

Added to guide:
*photos
*bits of convertor info
*few corrections
*redid location path to file header
*setup for file creation in Stepmania's editor feature

Submitting a stepfile:
Stepfile submission is just as easy now with the ability to upload files straight to the
forum's .dwi submission section. When submitting a .dwi file keep a couple things in mind:
Send the file in .zip form.  In the .zip form, be sure the file contains the .mp3 file, .dwi file and any other optional files such as background or notepad notices.  But please send at least both the music and .dwi files.  When posting the new topic, add the .zip file as an attachment.

Features not to include in your FFR stepfile:
At this time FFR can not support:
**Freeze Arrows
**BPM Changes
**BPM Freezes
We have still been getting submissions that incorporate these features.  If we receive files with these features, we can not use them.

BPM
Be sure to use the correct BPM value while creating your song file.  Some songs can be tricky but almost every song has some sort of driving beat in it.  Use programs such as
WINBPM to calculate a song's BPM value.  Beat Counter will calculate values for you.  By using the two programs together, you can have a better idea of what value to choose in the Beat Counter application.

Using the Stepmania editor:
A lot of people have asked me why the editor only plays the first three measures of a song while testing.  You have to press Enter at the beginning of the section you wish to test and Space at the end of the section you want to test.  Here are other keys you will use a lot:
Up and down: Moves up and down through the song by beat.
Left and Right: Switch between beat patterns (1/4, 1/8, etc.).
Enter: Mark the beginning of a section to test, copy, cut, etc.
Space: Mark the end of a section to test, copy, cut, etc.
X: Cut a section of your file.
C: Copy a section of your file.
V: Paste a copied or cut section into a section of your file.
Page Up: Moves up through the song by one measure.
Page Down: Moves down through the song by one measure.
Home: Jump to the beginning of the file.
End: Jump to the last note inserted into the file.
P: Test the current selected section of the file.
S: Save.
Q: Quit.
It may be awkward at first, but after using it, the editor becomes your best friend.  To pull up help options, press the Esc key.
Also, be sure to use the click assist options.  The click can be set to sound at every beat to better time your arrows.

Keep these items in mind and we'll look forward to receiving some more great stepfiles from our users.
