In order to make stepfiles, we first need to have songs.  Have songs you wish to submit?  Don't know where to submit them?  Don't know what FFR looks for in a good song?  All the answers are here.

Finding songs:
We at FFR are looking for any songs made available to us.  Rock, Hip-Hop, Dance, it's all good.  However, we follow a few rules:
*We must have permission to use the song.  A simple e-mail giving us permission will do fine.  Also, any artist who posts work on the song submission forum gives permission to use those works.
*The song must not have drastic and/or constant tempo changes.
*The song's recommeded length is 1:30-2:00.  If it extends past that frame, please edit the song or cut off the stepfile at an appropriate point.
*.mp3 is the preferred format of song file.
Good places to find song files for FFR are
mp3.com and soundclick.com.

Editing songs:
There are dozens of programs you use to edit songs.  Try a search at
download.com to look through such programs.

Songs needed:
Right now we are desperate need of funk, rock, classical and hip-hop songs.

Signatures and beats:
Most songs now run in time signatures of 4/4, or 4 beats per measure.  You probably won't come across too many 3/3 songs unless you do a waltz for the classical section.  Use these signatures to decide good candidates for music.
The Stepmania 1/4 notes are 1/4 of a measure.  The music will often have a bass beat driving on these 1/4 intervals.  Something with a bass drive 1-2-3-4 makes for the best files.  Songs with syncopation make for excellent air step accents.  Syncopation is an accent on beat 2 or 4.  Most syncopation is done with bass-(bass + snare effect)-bass-(bass + snare effect) patterns.  Songs with 1/8 effects make for good "run" songs most 1/8 patterns run as such bass-cymbal effect-bass-cymbal effect-bass-cymbal effect-bass-cymbal effect.  These patterns can also feature syncopation on the second and fourth bass effects.  By knowing simple music theory, you can choose songs according to the types of stepfiles you wish to make.

Artists wishing to contribute songs:
Visit the
song submission forum for more information or to upload songs for consideration.  We take songs of any genre.

DO NOT ASK US IF WE CAN USE LICENSED MUSIC!!!  No Linkin Park, no Eminem, no Metallica, no Brittney Spears - if it has a record label, forget about it unless you can pay $10,000+ royalty fees for us.
