ALEX - 16 month old female harlequin.  Alex came to me when her owners decided that they didn't want her to mess up their new house.  Alex was peeing in the house and also having other accidents. Her owners tried closing her in the garage which just caused her to become anxious and destructive.  When Alex came to me I quickly discovered she is a very sensitive young dog.  She wants to please so badly and if she thought she did something wrong she would squat and pee.  After the first week here she discovered she would not get yelled at for her accidents and she stopped having them.  She also had a diarrhea problem which was related to her pancreas.  Alex had no pancreatic function.  With proper medication this is under control also.  Alex has gained weight and is a wonderful, loving playful dog.  She has also gained confidence and doesn't feel she has to have me in her sight all the time.  She has free run of the house and is an excellent housedog.  She does not chew on anything but her dog toys.  She is getting along well with the 2 danes in the home but is a bit pushy with the mini-doxie.  She has lived with children and is good with them and is also good with horses.   She has gained enough confidence she now approaches visitors to the house for attention and affection bringing them her toys.
MAGNUM - 11 week old brindle puppy.  Magnum came to me from our NC chapter.  He and several siblings along with his mother and another adult female were turned over to rescue after his owner was taken to court on cruelty charges.  Magnum was afraid of people when he first arrived in rescue.  His first foster home helped him overcome this fear and become an outgoing puppy. In a matter of a week this little guy was sitting and giving me his paw before each meal.
MERLOT - 2 year old merlequin, Merlot came to me as a foster dog from a local shelter.  Her owners and given her up because she shed to much.  She is one sweet girl that immediately got along with both my dogs and loved my husband.  She was definitely more comfortable with men then women when she first arrived.  We figured that was because in her previous home it was the wife that did not want her so she probably didn't get a lot of positive attention from her.   Not many fosters get this special treatment from my hubby!  I think he was enjoying the fact that she liked him best.
PORTHOS - 2.5 year old fawnequin male.  Porthos was turned over to rescue because his original owner and abandoned him at a grooming salon.  He was placed in a home and after 6 months was returned to rescue.  His owners said he would run in fear from the man in the house and while running would urinate.  His owner said he was dangerous when he ran because he didn't look out for things in his path.  He's been with me 1 week now and he is a timid boy but not so timid that he doesn't eventually come up to everyone for pets.  He's a little more timid with men but if you let him back away his curiosity gets the best of him and he comes back in the room and eventually seeks out attention.  He does love to snuggle up next to you when laying on the floor and he's great with our family dogs.

Our goal is to allow him to overcome some of his fears by not reacting to them and letting him come to us at his own pace.   Many of his fears of tight spots, odd noises, etc. are pretty typical Great Dane behavior.  Anyone owning a dane will tell you they seem to be afraid of the silliest things sometimes.
