Sarah's beginning in life was not the best. She was bred by a backyard breeder who told rescue that both of Sarah's parents had skin problems. Also, she kept all her dogs outside all the time.
Her first owner kept her on a front porch never allowing her inside. She developed demodectic mange and treatment was started but never completed. Her owner contacted Mid-Atlantic Great Dane Rescue League, Inc. but decided to sell Sarah at a swap meet to recoup the money she had spent at the vets.
Sarah's second owners purchased her to breed her to their male Great Dane. After a mating did not occur and Sarah was stressed by being constantly chased by this male Dane she again developed Demodectic mange. These owners did not want to spend any money on her and so refused treatment. Sarah's condition progressed and as she became covered with open bleeding sores she was forced to stay outside in freezing conditions. |

Sarah had a steph infection, an eye infection and her feet and body were swollen from infection when she arrived in rescue. The above pictures were taken the day she arrived.
Sarah is currently being boarded and cared for by Aardmore Veternarium in Baltimore MD. She has been treated with antibiotics to get control of the infection and has undergone three medicated dips to clear up the mange. She is slowly improving. She is a very sweet affectionate dog that is very happy having a warm bed with a blanket of her own. She is completely housebroken and will soon be looking for a home of her own.
All of Sarah's medical expenses are being paid by donations made to Mid-Atlantic Great Dane Rescue League, Inc. For more information please check out my rescue page. |

REED'S STORY |
|
|
|
Reed's story is a short one. Reed was turned into the Baltimore City Animal Control by people who said they had found him. The animal control officers felt that the people were really the dogs owners.
Reed was extremely emaciated. Unfortunately this is not an unsual condition for a dog coming into our rescue. There were no medical conditions that would explain why Reed was so thin. Just pure neglect.
He is an extremely affectionate dog, that just wants some love. Our vets felt he was approximately 1 1/2 yrs. old.
Reed has found a new permanent home. |
