Back along the coast road, past the smoking chimneys of Santander and Bilbao and back in San Sebastian for the last leg of our holiday. I wish I'd remembered to look happier and to suck my belly in for the photo on the right. The hillside directly behind my head poking through the haze is where we camped. A couple of weeks after we returned home, Basque seperatists shot an ex-government minister in the same village we were camping in. He survived. Despite this, I am led to believe that San Sebastian is a very safe place to be and is seen to be the jewel in the crown of the Basque Country. It's quite a wealthy and stylish town just a few miles from the French resort of Biarritz.
The other photo is of the beach, which took about thirty seconds to clear when the clouds came over. I like this photo with the blue and white posts and the sunchairs padlocked to them. |
