Berlin 2001
Berlin Town Hall
Fernsehturm
Fernsehturm napkin
Still on Alexanderplatz. If you walk towards the Fernsehturm from Marx and Engels, you come across Neptune sitting in the middle of a fountain. The fine old building in the background is Berlin Town Hall. The flag flying from the top of the tower is the flag of Berlin - a bear on a white field bordered above and below by a red stripe - but you'll have to take my word for that.

The other photo is a close up of the Fernsehturm. It's 207 metres to the revolving restaurant where there's a fantastic and dizzying view of the city. It's very cheap to go up the tower but the coffee is bloody expensive. It cost us about a fiver for a couple of small cappucinos. To prove that we made it to the top, I've also scanned a napkin. Unfortunately the weather wasn't good enough to take photos at the time, the photos would have had the glare of my camera's flash on the glass and little else. Still, it'll give me an excuse to go up again when I go back. There's a great machine at the bottom which grinds out a medal depicting the tower using the Five Mark piece you feed it as the raw material.
