| Berlin 2001 |
| Unter Den Linden ("Under The Lime Trees") is part of the main boulevard that stretches through Berlin City Centre from Alexanderplatz (although it's called something else there) through the Brandenburg Gate and the Tiergarten, past the Bundestag down to the Sieges Saule. The stretch known as Unter Den Linden is where most of the foreign embassies are situated and is on the old East side. The Russian Embassy is absolutely huge as you might imagine. There's a lot of building work in this area. It has been said that Berlin is the largest construction site in Europe, so it will be interesting to see what the skyline looks like when I next visit, which I have solemnly vowed to do. On the photo of me taking my hands out of my pockets, notice the shrouded Brandenburg Gate in the distance. Hitler had the Lime Trees flattened when he was chancellor so he could have a better view of all the military parades that used to sweep down the boulevard. They've been re-planted since as you can see. |
