Kit List for Volunteers
In the
"Essential Information" booklet there is a basic kit list for
volunteers attending working holidays.
This is my own kit list that I use for weekend working holidays, which is a bit
more detailed than the one in the booklet. I hope it may be useful to new volunteers.
Sleeping bag.
(Essential)
Pillow. (Provided at some basecamps)
Pillowcase. (Recommended)
Walking boots. (Essential, although sometimes provided)
Wellingtons. (Recommended for wet conditions)
Shoes or Trainers. (For evenings)
Waterproof Trousers. (Recommended)
Waterproof Jacket. (Essential)
Working Gloves. (Essential, although often provided)
Pyjamas. (Recommended, the bedrooms may not be en-suite)
Jumpers. (Recommended)
Pants and Socks. (Thick socks for boots)
Handkerchiefs. (or tissues)
Casual clothes. (For evenings)
Working clothes. (For daytime)
Casual Jacket. (For evenings)
Shorts. (It may be sunny!)
Alarm Clock. (Don't miss breakfast)
Torch and spare batteries. (For those night-time walks)
Personal First Aid kit. (Recommended)
Insect repellent. (Recommended)
Suncream. (Recommended)
Small ruc sac. (For day-time use)
Booking details etc. (Joining instructions and directions)
Road Atlas. (To find your way there)
Pen and notebook. (For swapping e-mail addresses)
Shower gel and shampoo. (Essential)
Soap, flannel & soap dish. (Essential)
Deodorant. (Recommended)
Toothbrush and Toothpaste. (Essential)
Hairbrush or comb. (Or have the rugged look)
Shaver. (Some basecamps do not have mains shaver plugs)
Towel. (Essential)
Flask or water bottle. (For daytime drinks)
Sandwich box. (For packed lunch)
Tea towel. (May not be worth bringing home after)
Camera and films. (Disposables are very handy)
Change for payphone. (To ring those loved ones)
Mobile phone. (May not work at some basecamps)
Old holdall or bag for dirty washing. (It may be very muddy)
Hat. (For keeping off the sun, or keeping you warm)
Hayfever tablets. (If you suffer!)
Obviously individuals may have their own requirements, but these are the items that I take with me for a weekend.
