About Volunteering

The National Trust works to conserve coastal and countryside landscapes, historic buildings and gardens for everyone to enjoy.

Some 38,000 volunteers support the National Trust by contributing over two million hours of their time each year to the work of the Trust, making it the largest voluntary nature conservation organisation in Europe.

The volunteers work in many different ways, from highly-skilled tasks to those requiring only a gift of time and enthusiasm.

Working Holidays give you the opportunity to get away to one of 140 Trust locations in awe-inspiring open country throughout England, Wales and N. Ireland.

You can help to manage an ancient oak wood, construct a moorland footpath, carry out a hedgerow survey and lots more - no experience needed.

Go for a week, weekend or fortnight's Working Holiday, staying in simple, farmhouse type accommodation (Basecamps) with a dozen other volunteers.

Volunteers can join a local group and get active, repairing, improving and maintaining countryside cared for by the Trust.

Workparties are organised on one or two days a month, usually Saturdays or Sundays; a lively social events programme provides the perfect antidote to a day's outdoor conservation work.
