About Ship: The Valiant was one of (presumably) several starships sent out from Earth in the Early days of warp propulsion. The Valiant itself was lost after it's crew went insane when it penetrated the barrier surrounding the Galaxy. At warp 2.5 (less than 16c) it would've taken nearly forever to get there. I suppose they found a shortcut. Go fig.
