Type: Destroyer

Status: One undergoing trials against a competing design, the Dragon class destroyer. Data gathered during testing will be used to determine whether Starfleet will construct Jaguars or Dragons.

About Ship: The Jaguar class is an attempt to determine the feasability of scaling up the concept of the Defiant class of starship, and combining as many stealth features as possible.

The hull of the Jaguar is configured to reflect very little electromagnetic energy back to its source. The outer layer includes the latest version of the multifunction phased array (MPA), which includes holographic emitters as well as the standard sensors, phaser, tractor and deflector emitters. Also incorporated into the MPA is the new Phase-Inverting Multi-band Emission Supression System (PIMESS). The PIMESS, in conjunction with the holographic emitter system, creates the illusion of "nothing here" without violating the treaty of Algeron. The basic operating principles of these combined systems achieve cloaking by a completely different mechanism than that proscribed by the treaty.

The Jaguar is heavily armed, with sixteen phaser cannon. Rather than installing quantum torpedo launchers, the Jaguar has 100 internal racks, each holding a single enhanced quantum torpedo. The hull is heavily armored with both conventional and ablative material.

The Jaguar is powered by a quad-core M/ARA coupled to a battery of quantum flywheels. Sub-light propulsion is provided by a standard fusion-type impulse engine supplemented by gravitic slope modulators for enhanced agility.

The Jaguar carries only one class XX shuttle. Rather than carry SARPEVs, the Jaguar carries sixteen enhanced quantum torpedo casings with sensors packages replacing the warheads. These are used as probes to scout ahead of the ship beyond normal torpedo range.
