About Ship: The Jii'Kangj (Conqueror -- literal translation: "last warrior standing") was a fast cruiser-sized vessel used by the Klingons starting in 2285. Derived from the daJiich, the Jii'Kangj was designed to augment the fleet of D7 battlecruisers along the Federation border. Tensions with the Federation had increased during the mid-23d century, and the Empire was concerned about its ability to fend off a Federation attack. The D-7 was a powerful fighting ship for its day, but the refit "Federation Battlecruiser" (the refit Constitution class heavy cruiser) was a formidable fighting ship, despite the handicap of carrying almost twice the necessary crew to support its science mission.

Despite appearances, the Jii'Kangj was not simply an enlarged daJiich, but it did bear a striking similarity to its smaller cousin. The main functional difference between the two vessels, apart from sheer size, is the much more powerful warp core and heavier armaments carried by the Jii'Kangj.

Generally, a scaled-up design is slower than the smaller ship it was derived from, but the configuration of the Jii'Kangj is fairly efficient across a range of scales. Its warp core provides enough power that the Jii'Kangj is capable of cruising at better than warp eight with an emergency speed of warp nine. It was the first Klingon vessel capable of sustaining such speed without danger.

The Jii'Kangj's main armaments are comprised of very powerful disruptors with wide arcs of fire. Originally these were supplemented by several smaller disruptors for point defense against missiles and fighters, but the rate of fire and accuracy of the main armament rendered them redundant, and they were removed. The disruptors are supplemented by a dual-tube torpedo launcher forward, and a single-tube torpedo launcher aft. Defensive systems included standard deflectors and a cloaking device.

Although the Jii'Kangj served a long and honorable career, it never fully replaced the D7. Although it was a more powerful warship, it was less economical to operate and had limited utility in other roles. The Jii'Kangj was retired to the reserves when the Vor'cha entered production circa 2360. A demilitarized Jii'Kangj was presented to Starfleet at the end of the Dominion war as a gesture of goodwill. It is currently being restored to its original (as introduced) configuration and will become a display at the Starfleet Academy Museum of Spaceflight.

Starfleet gratefully acknowledges the cooperation and assistance of its counterparts in the Klingon Imperial Defense forces for providing much of the historical data regarding this vessel.
