About Ship: The AvwI'quv (translation: Honor guard; lit. "(one who) guards honor") was the primary shuttlecraft used within the Klingon Empire throughout the mid-to-late 23d century. Performance of this vessel was comparable to many Federation shuttles in service at the time.

Originally designed as a personnel transport, the wide aft door prompted many field commanders to modify them for cargo duty by the simple expedient of unbolting the seats. Eventually the design was modified to use folding seats that stowed within the cabin. This allowed quick conversion to and from cargo configuration.

The AvwI'quv was of extremely durable construction, and was a favorite amongst shuttle pilots due to its excellent maneuverability and ease of control. When a civilian version became available in 2270, the only modification was to de-rate the engines (to increase service life), widen the aft door and include a loading ramp.

One of the AvwI'quv's virtues was the ease of maintenance and modification. Very few civil AvwI'quw remain in the standard configuration, with each owner modifying engines or internal configuration to suit his needs. At least one AvwI'quv has been converted into a runabout, with its spaceframe stretched to nearly three times the original configuration's length. The AvwI'quv is still produced in small numbers, but has been phased out of Klingon Defense Force service.
