Invincible Match Reports
City
of Portsmouth 0 - Alton 4
This was the 3rd match for this new team, but missing some of the early squad,
Invincible lived up to their name for the first third against what must be
some of the biggest U12's in Hampshire, a complete male team, most of whom
could hit the ball twice as hard as any of our team!! Undaunted Invincible
moved the ball around well with Simon Clarke working well down the left flank.
0-0 at the end of 1/3. A few changes to positions and the second third started
well with Clare Ross working down the right. Alton were starting to get into
their stride and Josh Francis was starting to earn his match fee with several
point blank saves. Eventually Alton scored a goal from a short corner which
we failed to clear. This soon led to a second and we lost our shape for a
while but stirling work by Richard Farmer in defence ensured that we held
the score. With yet another run Simon linked well with James Hill, in central
midfield, and only just failing to score as the ball was run across the face
of goal with nobody able to react to put it over the line. 0-2 at the end
of 2/3. Several positional changes again for the final third, Lauren Carter
moved to central defence with Richard but the team were starting to struggle
against a much stronger team and we had stopped passing the ball. 2 more goals
came from well struck shots from the top of the D gave a flatering score-line
to Alton but it could have been more but for Josh making more good reaction
saves. Invincible finally came against a 1st team squad but held their own
in playing ability we just needed a bit of strength, it will come, most of
the team have at least another year at this level, well played everyone.
Man of the Match : Richard Farmer / Josh Francis
City
of Portsmouth 3 - Salisbury 1
The third team, Invincible, took on Salisbury but despite constant pressure
were unable to turn this into any more than a 3 - 1 win. Overall the players
combined well as a team without anybody shining and they had Jack Hardcastle
(2) and Jack May to thank for their goals.
City
of Portsmouth 1 - Portsmouth & Southsea
0
The icing on the cake for City was the performance and 1 - 0 victory of
their third team, almost all of whom had never played on a full sized pitch
before. City took the opportunity to field an extra side for the first time
this year after an influx of new players from their Primary Schools Centre
of Excellence. Local rivals Southsea provided their doughty opposition and
it took a fine opportunist effort from Adam Payne to separate the two teams.
In a fascinating game impressive debuts were made by Ben Benford, Mark Davis
and Danny Bretall but man-of-the-match was undoubtedly Mike Pratt who dominated
the middle of the park.
