Intrepid Match Reports
City
Of Portsmouth 9 - Salisbury 1
City demonstrated their strength in depth once again at the weekend as they
took a side of youngsters, most of whom have only been playing for a couple
of months, away to Salisbury. The match proved to be a one way affair with
the home side spending most of the game pinned into their own half and, had
it not been for the 'borrowing' of Tim (Timmo) Batchelor in goal, the floodgate
would truly have been opened. It was not until the last five minutes that
Salisbury managed to make any impression on the game when a solitary attack
earned them a penalty corner. The shot looked to be well covered on the line
by Adam Payne who mysteriously lifted his stick to allow the ball to trickle
over the line! City's play improved as the game wore on - starting as a bunch
of individuals they gradually began to work together as a team with Ben Searle
and Ant Shurmar working well on the right and even Danny Brettall and Adam
Payne actually passing the ball to the other players from time to time! City's
goals were spread around the players with Anthony Shurmar grabbing a hat-trick
and Chris Hill 'poaching' a couple on the line! The other goals were chipped
in by Adam Payne, Dan Brettall, Kyle Mitchell and Matt Jolly.
Team: Tim Batchelor, Matt Jolly, Kyle Mitchell (Man-of-the-match), Luke Nutkins, Ben Searle, Danny Brettall, Adam Payne, Chris Hill, James Price, Jack Hardcastle, Anthony Shurmar.

City 2 - Portsmouth &
Southsea 2 The fourth team, Intrepid, were grateful to Southsea for putting out a side at short notice and this proved to be the most evenly contested of the four games. 'Tiny' Bretall gave City an early lead only to see Southsea hit back before the interval to lead by 2 goals to 1. After the break City showed more purpose and eventually Miles Spence, on his debut, grabbed a deserved equaliser.
