Responsibilities
of Region Chairperson
The Region Chairperson is not an honorary
officer but an officer of supreme importance. The Region
Chairperson is, in reality, an assistant District Governor.
Although many Region Chairpersons do not become Governors,
each Region Chairperson is chosen for their outstanding
leadership ability, personality, and ability to fulfill
the role of the Governor.
The Region Chairperson must:
Be an active member in good standing in the Region
Have served, or will have served at the time of installment,
as the President of a Lions Club for a full year or major
portion thereof, and as a member of the Board of Directors
of a Lions Club.
Duties of the Region Chairperson
To attend regular Cabinet Meetings of the District
Governor.
To attend the District and International Conventions
To hold staff meetings with Zone Chairpersons in the Region
at least bi-monthly. These are to discuss the status and
health of each club in the Region. Items covered may include
service programs, membership status, attendance records,
and any problems/concerns.
To attend the regular meeting of each club in the Region
at least once during the year. Accompanying the District
Governor during an Official Visit will not count towards
this requirement.
To be prepared at all times to induct new members and install
officers when requested by a club in the Region
To work with the Zone Chairperson in strengthening clubs
in the Region
To perform other duties as delegated to the Region Chairperson
by the District Governor such as:
Assist in District and Club Officer schools
Supervising District Committees
Holding Regional new member orientations
Responsibilities of Zone Chairpersons
Zone Chairpersons are the main link between
District Officers and the clubs in their Zone. The Zone
Chairperson is to keep District Officers informed of club
activities.
Zone Chairpersons are selected for their leadership skills.
They are expected to provide direction, motivation, guidance,
and support to fellow Lions. To increase enthusiasm, performance,
effectiveness, and commitment of fellow Lions, the Zone
Chairperson strives to make individual Lion members feel
important to the organization and part of the team.
Competent Zone Chairpersons work to develop these
attitudes by:
Involving Lions in delegating appropriate duties
Praising and recognizing fellow Lions
Treating all Lions in a respectful and supportive manner
The Zone Chairperson is supervised by the District Governor
and the Region Chairperson. The Zone Chairperson is the
chief administrative officer in the Zone.
Zone Chairpersons' specific duties are:
Further the purposes and objectives of the International
Association of Lions Clubs
Attend all regularly scheduled meetings of the district
as provided for in the district constitution
Visit a regular meeting of each club in the Zone within
the first quarter of the term in office
Hold staff meetings at least bi-monthly to report status
of Zone clubs to Region Chairperson
Serve as Chairperson of the District Governors Advisory
Committee in the Zone. This includes annually holding 3
meetings of the committee
Appoint a fellow Lion to prepare and send Zone meeting reports
to District Governor and Lions International Headquarters
Guide and assist clubs in the exchange of ideas pertaining
to programs, projects, activities, and fund raising activities
Supervise the progress of district, multiple district, and
Lions Club International programs in the Zone
Work in close cooperation with all district committee chairpersons
Ensure all clubs in Zone operate under duly adopted club
constitution and by-laws
Promote club representation at International and district
conventions
Represent Zone clubs requiring problem resolution to the
district, multiple district, or Lions International
Recommend club presidents for the Presidents Excellence
Award
Perform other functions as may be required by the International
Board of Directors
