Elan valley dams are situated a few miles from the small town of Rhayader, Powys,in an area of outstanding beauty.There are 70sq miles of open hillside and crags, woodlands, meadows, rivers and streams.
The area is rich in animal wildlife including the Red Kite which can be seen soaring above the crags.
The dams were created to supply water to the people of Birmingham

Above is the visitor centre which is open every day 10am ~5.30pm from Mid March until end of October.
The centre has a good gift shop, cafe,tea rooms, play area for the children toilets and a picnic area. The parking is good and there is access for the disabled.
Entrance to the visitor centre is free, the �1.00 parking charge covers you for the whole estate.
