Resumen:

Enriching information retrieval, question answering and other advanced applications with semantic knowledge has become an increasing demand. On the other hand, the enormous growth of Internet in the last decade has produced a growing interest in the automatic processing of written text, especially from the semantic perspective. Ontology development to support Semantic Web has lead to the improvement of techniques capable of managing underlying semantic relations between concepts. This seminar outlines basic concepts concerning semantics and their crucial role in a wide range of language applications. The contents focus on two key issues: available resources for semantic processing and techniques to automatically extract semantic relations in natural language (e.g. supervised/unsupervised machine learning techniques, corpus-based techniques).
